hi, I've recenty been looking around. i have always found miniature transport to be one of the most awkward things in the hobby, either having to spend alot of time and money to make your own case, or buying an expensive pre-done one that doesnt even fit larger minis.. so i wanted to find another way. I found the main other method used is magnetism. This was quite surprising for me, having never thought anything like this. It seems a very good idea, having your models magnetically attached to your carry case, and if you spend slightly more you can have you minis attracted to you movement trays, which in turn are attracted to the case. This method seems great, but a little hard to do. Does anyone use anything similar ? if so, please do say how this is done. how does everyone else transport thier minis ?

I don't know if i'd want to haul a display around in my car everytime i go to play a game. i really like the sabol army transport cases, their trays are big enough to fit pretty much anything.

I did look at them, but they are again just awkward big expensive foam trays. I think that for 40k, id simply have magnets on the bottoms of them, and carry them around in a tool box. for fantasy, this is alot more awkward. needing alot more minias and such.. does anyone else use magnetic transport with fantasy miniatures ?

For warhammer I use magnets under each miniature and my movement trays are lined with a metal plate so the minis stay locked in position on each movement tray. For a case I use a large plastic bin divided up into blocks with foamboard dividers. Then I can put each movement tray in each compartment. The box costs very little to make. Here's a link to a picture of one of the boxes, but without the movement trays in place. http://www.netmdc.com/~longfang/Subp...iature_Box.htm Here's how I make quick and cheap magnetic movement trays: http://www.netmdc.com/~longfang/Subp...ic%20Bases.htm For 40K I use Sabol army trays. You can get foam inserts thick enough to fit any vehicle and customize your case to fit your army. |
