how do people feel about the statement
'of the 4th edition list peticualy and all lists genraly it is not the lists that cause problems it is tournements and people being engoraged to play a competertive game (more like chess) that causes problems which are then blamed on lists.'
'tournement incorage and cause army list abuse which is the real problem with the game'
you might remember the white dwarf with us in.
now you might be slitly tempted to look at the website!!
That's only part of the problem, lets not forget that basic concepts such as "proof reading" and "reprints" seem to give Games Workshop trouble.
Tournament mentality has a lot to answer for though, rules and tactics tend to spark the most heated debates.
Starfire: Very, very good. What was your joyful thought?
Raven: You don't want to know...
Starfire: Oh, but I do... please tell me... what did you imagine?
Raven: You not talking.
Starfire: Oh... well then... I'm glad I can contribute...
Tournaments bring out the bad and the good in people. Some only go to win, where others go to have fun. Are the samething yes and no. Lets say someone brings a Codix Approvied army or, one which people do not see every day. The person plays and wins. The person could have gone two ways with this. First he did it to win at all costs, second he could have do it to be different and to have fun. From what I have seen in tournaments most people bring a balanced army and they do well. On the other side is when you bring a specialized army and play a game where said army can not win. Then is when the ugliness comes in to play.
Why use science and education when ignorance and superstition will work just as well.
I feel that the statement is wrong.Originally Posted by ammedie
Army list abuse happens whether the person is a tourney player or not. The over the top will to win is what causes army list abuse, and that can appear in all sorts of types of gamers, of all sorts of ages. Its also not limited to wargaming, but to pretty most sports, if not all of them.
Having said that, there is nothing wrong with playing to win. Within reason. Now yeah, ok, bringing up every rule, every few minutes, cheating, fast dice rolling, being an arse...etc, aye those are bad things, because they sap the fun from the game for at least one party.
But take me for example. I do none of the above, and yet I play to win about 80% of the time. I bring up rules aye, but only when I don't really know about the rule thats being played at the time.
Playing to win, and playing competitive games is ok, as long as both partys remember that they are there to have fun, and have clean enjoyable games.
ok, here is a golden one.
CCW + BP
Melta Gun, Heavy Bolter.
Melta Gun, Missile Launcher.
I have seen this list used in a tourny of 750 points. its perfectly legal but its pathetic.
the player said he wanted to have fun but obviously he was a douche.
They cant refuse him to play because the list was legal, but its readiculus, 2 land raiders in 750 points...
if i want to win a tournament of 750 points, i think tha will be the way to go espetially if i want to rip the fun out of the game!
IG can do that too...
3x Leman Russ BT w/Hull Lascannon and Sponsoon HBs
All thats just 635 points total. So you can goof around with the extra 115 points making the HQ or troop squads a little meaner.
Fifth Edition Saved 40k for Me. I love my ratlings and my cover saves!
wow, if i was to run that list, i would drop the meltaguns and upgrade a LR to a LRC with Extra Armor. what now!!!???!!!??? i can be a newb strategist, too.Originally Posted by Reflex
this is very competitive, but if someone like ML's, this can be a problem, eventually.....
lol having 9 land speeders with assault cannons flying around hurts more than those land raiders i would say.
i am alpha and omega.
but land speeders die easyer, so in a victory points situation...Originally Posted by SamuelEastridge

it consisted of a warboss with a Power Claw and a slugga.
and 65 ork slugga boyz. with 3 rokkit launchers and 3 big shootas!
i think thats funny, so orky. it would be imposible to shoot them down in 2 or 3 turns unless it was open terrain. in CoD that army would chop things up good. mind you they dont ahave alot of anti tank.... or firepower... but there orks.
Of course, don't forget the 60+ man seer council that was in the 2005/2006 UK GT finals
That seer council with two minimum Star Cannon guardian squads....why did the bloke take it? Too show GW how broken the list was XD
