How long does everyone think LOTR will last? i mean it cannot carry on as long as 40K or Fantasy can it? there is not much room for new races/scenarios and it can only be a matter of tim euntil the Aura wears of really isnt it?

What are your views on the matter?

    Cheers

    Chris

Hard to see the future is, The books appeal has lasted well enough with little new (whos actually read all christopher tolkiens stuff?) But who know LOTR may pass on just like space hulk and hero quest.

i think it will last quite awhile as it will allow you to re-create battles from the silmarillion and also because the games are very fast and fluid that it is alot easier to have a Lotr's battle than a WFB one.

Personally I don't think it'll last much longer than a year. The only reason it's so popular is because of the movies, once nothing new comes onto the big screen, so too will the game fade away...

I agree with Bornin unlike 40k, fantasy and other games they just can't keep on making models, there's no expanding the universe, and after the movies die down there is no way to get more buyers/players so profits will go down and eventually the game will be no longer and that shouldn't be to long from know maybe a year or two.

I'd say it will exist in one form or another gradually dwindling until they get the Hobbit Film out. *

Once Hobbit is out there will be a resurgence in interest for a year or so fuelled by re-releases of the other films.

Whether in the quiet periods GW allows the game to go 'mail-order' and specialist only is another matter as this is a movie tie-in game unlike games like BB, SH, MoW and so forth.

I personally think the majority of GW's LotR sales are actually dependent on line of sight marketing and if people don't see the banners then they won't buy into the game and indeed probably won't even go out of their way to find out if such a thing exists.

*The production of The Hobbit depends on NewLine Cinema (which has first refusal on the release rights) negotiating with United Artists for the distribution rights (they had these from ages ago when they were going to make their own Hobbit fest I think.

The Mumaki (Oliphonts) are rode my the Hradrir, the Easterlings are just heavily armoured troops that use land although I think they may have chariots. I hope the game will last for longer because its a good game and its fun to play for a while. It is actually the only game so far where I have enjoyed massive battles.
