It is time for a new competition on LO - the Battlefleet Gothic Short Story Competition. This is the first BFG competition on LO, so lets get it off to a good start! If I get enough entries then I'm going to try and run a regular BFG competition, so the more people entering the better!
For this competition, I would like you to write me a short story based around Battlefleet Gothic (BFG). The story can be about anything you like: a mighty space battle, a old captain's memories of his glory days, a young officer's as he catches his first glimpse of his new ship or a day in the life of a gun-deck crewman... your imagination is the limit. The story has to have some link to Battlefleet Gothic, but that is about the only restriction, so what are you waiting for?
If you have not heard of BFG before, it is a game of space battles set in the 40K universe. The game recounts battles in which vast warships lay waste to one another with weapons of unspeakable power across the vast interstellar distances of the void. Ancient vessels hammer one another in attempts to control space lanes, deliver troops to enemy held worlds, or simply destroy the hated enemy. If you want some more information have a look at the LO BFG forum, or go to www.specialist-games.com and have a look at the articles (and free rulebook!). You may even find some inspiration for your story.
As mentioned before, you should write short story centred around Battlefleet Gothic.
3000 words maximum. You don't have to write that many, but don't go over the limit
Midnight on Sunday 17th September 2006. Entries received after this time will not be considered. This gives you 6 weeks to write the story... loads of time
Write the story in block-paragraph format (like this post). Be sure to use correct spelling and grammar. The story can be written from any perspective - 1st/3rd person, present/past tense - its up to you. I can put up with some errors, but if your story is full of them I'll send it back for you to correct it.
Submit your story via email to firstname.lastname@example.org by the deadline stated above. You need to include the following :
- LO username (so if you are a guest here right now sign up to LO and enter the competition)
- Preferred email address to contact you on should anything be wrong with the submission - or if you win!
- The story itself, attached to the email as either a word document, a .txt file from the windows "notepad" program or a rich text document from the MAC OS "textedit" program. The attached file should have the same name as your username; so if I submitted a word file it would be called rp252.doc . DO NOT just copy and paste the story to this post, an email or a PM. Please note that you can only make one submission per username.
The winner will receive the following prizes:
- Entry of the winning article in the LO online magazine.
- An LO T-shirt
- A green prize winner rosette
Several judges (including myself) will judge the entries after the deadline has passed and announce the winner when we have finished. Please be patient waiting for the results. When judging, we will be looking for originality, adherence to the current fluff, writing style and generally how interesting the story is. Please note that the story must be your own work; plagarism is not allowed.
Questions and addenda
If you have a question then post it here and I'll do my best to answer promptly. You can PM me if you want. Be sure not to discuss story ideas on this or any other post - you don't want anyone stealing your winning idea! Finally, please do not email any questions to the submission address.
If I think of anything else I need to say then I will post here, so keep an eye on this space.
Right, thats it. Pick up your pen and get writing... best of luck to everyone
All right! Will start working on my submission soon.
To address a concern that has come up:
Neither I nor any of the judges will be entering the competition so there is no need to worry about bias
Thanks for the suport Camel, is anyone else interested?
I guess that some is writing but have not posted in this thread.
Just a quick Addendum.
The previously unconfimed green prize winners rosette has now been confirmed as one of the prizes for the competition. Direct your thanks to the lovely Miss Grephaun who has kindly allowed me to offer one. Cheers Greph
I think i may have a try (i promise it will be better than my last work of fiction that appeared on librarium lol.
Equipped with the latest XV25 Stealth Armour these troops are the 'love wolves' of the Tau army, operating independently of other formations.
This cock up is bought to you by GW Australia.
I have started work on one, although I have never played BFG :w00t:

Blind panic is such an inspiration

I agree. I have lost count of the number of courseworks I have started and finsihed the day they were meant to be handed in. And the number of exams I have revised for just the night before. Fear is a great motivator.Originally Posted by Lurch
