This will sound noob, but what the hell does MEQ stand for? I see it alot and cant think of what its an acronym for
MEQ stands for marine equivalent, so basicly any of those 3+ save armies with a statline of 4. There are a whole lot more of them than you might think.

Oh ok, yeh i understand now. I was always thinking each letter stood for something. Maybe if people wrote it as MEq i mighta got it ... i just couldnt think of anything in the warhammer world starting with 'Q'. Thanks for that ... thread closed
How many MEQ armies are out there?
1. Space Marines in all their incarnations and sub-chapters.
4. Chaos Space Marines
That's it, isn't it? Admittedly, the majority of 40k players play either SM or Chaos regularly, so MEQ armies are far too prevalent, but the rest of the armies are in the clear when being considered for MEQ status.
Witch Hunters have a 3+ save and BS 4, but they are lacking in other respects. Tyranids have weak small critters all the way up to hulking brutes. Eldar and Dark Eldar have T 3 and average a 4+ or 5+ save. Tau: 4+ save, T3, horrible at CC. Orks, rubbish saves and skill. IG - mediocre stats and 4+ or 5+ saves.
Alien Hunters will be when they come out, or at least the Deathwatch will be. So there will be 5 if you do not count Chapters other than Grey Knights and Deathwatch as seperate forces. Of course, that number would be increased to around ten if you count all the Chapters with their own Codices. Still, 5 is a considerable number when there are some dozen armies with a couple few play.
And don't forget that Black Templars and the other big chapters have their own codices, whithout needing the SM parent 'dex (only BT do now, but others will...). So I guess you could count them as seperate armies of MEQ's.
