Can any1 tell me whats better value : the warhammer ruelbook or macragge set?
main question : DOES the macragge edition rulebook have ALL the rules etc that the £30 rulebook does?
the rule box is better than the macragge rulebook because the macragge book does not have all the rules

The battle for macragge rulebook DOES have all the rules in... however it doesnt have all the fluff or the rules for games like kill-team in it.
If you collect Tyranids or somethnig you can use the space marines in (Chaos, Loyalists etc) THen i think theBattle for Macragge would be better value.

Fenrir: and magic.

As pointed out, this is an incorrect statement.Originally Posted by spacemarine
The games rules are the exact in BFM rules or the BGB. Even page numbers are the same.
The only difference is the bgb includes a bit more fluff and has addition "advanced rules" for 40k in 40 minutes, kill teams, and several more mission variations.
If you can use the models, you're 1,000 times better off with the BFM. If no one at your store has the bgb, and none of your friends do, you may wish to bite the bullet and waste the difference and lose out on the models for more missions. Totally up to you, but I've always found it better to buy the bfm. Even as you can trade the models for more of an army.
good luck either way.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
Personally I think that both books are worth having. Especially true if you can either use the marine's or tyranids that come with the boxed set. The crashed ship alone is worth getting the boxed set I think...
That said if you are looking for straight rules you get a lot of stuff with the battle for macragge boxed set so I would probably go that route. Not to mention if you are a new player you get the templates, scatter dice, etc. If the stuff in the box is not that important to you the hard back rule book has a lot of extra stuff in it that is interesting wether it be modeling ideas, 40k in 40 minutes, kill team, etc. I really like the rule book.

I'll say the rulebook since you'll get all the special rules for other games, fluff and more pics.
I have them both but I like the rulebook the most. It is simply better IMO
I like my Rulebook, because of all the fluff thats contained in it, as well as the mission templates.
I've not got the A5 book, but I've seen it, and its good in the sense thats it got all the rules you need in order to play, and is also not as heavy and easier to pack. Heck, it'll even fit in a coat pocket
You'll also get minis and terrain, as well as dice with the set, where as well the rule book you won't get all that.
And even if you don't play Tyranid's or SM, you can always Ebay the minis

I'd go with the Macragge, but it's all your choice. If you are a beginner, go with that and a paint set. If you are a player who's been going at it for quite some time, go with the rulebook. (you should have had it by now if that were the case.)
If terrorists ask you "Do you have a bullet through your head?" say proudly, with dignity, "No, I do not. Go fish."
