im thinking of purchasing the armybuilder program, and i see that gw has their own products as well , has anyone bought these or tried them, which one is better? thanks in advance for any help.
quite a lot has been written on this, if you search the forum you'll see that most everyone recommends Army Builder from Wolf Software over GW.
GW is UNBELIEVABLY slow to update their army lists, and there are a good number of problems with the software and lists.
Army Builder lists should still be checked against your codex, as there are occasional incorrect stats, but that said, it's WORLDs better than GW's product.

I havent used either, a calculato, paper, a pen and my codex is all i need.
But from what i have heard army builder is WAY better. But then again, what do i know? ^^

I use Army Builder myself and it has frequent updates and is a reliable tool. However, never used the GW so cant give much input on it. I just say go with Army Builder  .
I personally use Army builder. It is quick to update with the newest army list, it is 99% correct. It is also brilliant at printing out your list, you can set it to print out certain options at the bottom, such as weapon stats.
It is however more expensive then GW, and your lisence only lasts a year, however even after your lisence has expired you can manually download the updates to continue using it. Another advantage of using Army Builder is that it also covers a wide range of other gaming systems including battlefleet gothic and blood bowl. Chances are that if there is a miniatures game in existence then army builder has files for it. It is quick and efficent and lets you try out lots of different army lists quickly.
If you can afford it then i woul highly recommend Army Builder over GW due to the fact it is updated quicker, is easy (imo) to use and is more versatile in that it covers, as mentioned earlier, more games.
I would suggest downloading the trial version to see if you like the format of Army Builder from their website (can't remember it exactly but just search Army Builder on Google)
Hope this helps,
Between the two, Army Builder is the better product.
That being said though, I found I got the most mileage out of army builder when I was first starting. Now, that isn't to say it's worthless to anyone who isn't a noob, what I mean to say is, Army Builder is most useful when you're starting a new army and don't know all of the ins and outs of it yet.
Once you get a feel for who's getting what in your army, you'll probably find yourself using it less and less, but at first, especially with armies that have non-standard organization, like Imperial Guard for instance, it's pretty handy.

For tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.
thanks for the input everyone, im buying armybuilder!
ArmyBuilder is a product worth its' cost. Like most GW products, you can usually find a substitute that is cheaper and of better quality. Certainly buy ArmyBuilder if you feel you need it.
I've never heard of a non GW army builder that you can do up 40k list with...isn't that breaking some copyright or patent?

I have army builder... and i love it... lots
despite this, the good old pen/calculator combo is still the best, as it gives me maximum flexiblity. army builder is ver flexible, but it doesnt seem to work well with space marine trait armies
the best thing about army builder is the sexy sext print out. when you print out your list, it organises it so well its not funny. for tourny's i always print off an army builder list, as i think the proffesional look scares my opponent.
