Ok I've bought a squad of Raptors and Chaos marines, but have found my self a bit stuck. I can't really decide which chapter to use as teh foundation for my army. I'm tossed up primarily between the Black legion and the Word Bearers. The BL gives me some more flexability in terms of a game (and I did just finish building a cool nurgle lord conversion), but I like the look and modeling potentail of the Word Bearers.
Any suggestions? Feelings on this issue.
with the word bearers y can have loads of demons and cultists too as such you have loads of scope for modling
Actually Alpha Legion is the only Legion that can take cultists. Anyway, the Word Bearers are for players who like large amounts of troops, and at least half of the troops section should be Daemons. BL is of course much more flexible, but that also means they don't really have something special. I'd go for Word Bearers, and then give up 1 choice of elites, fast attack and heavy support each, and get 9 troops choices. Then use 1 squad of each type of Daemon, maybe in the case of Tzeentchian Daemons take one pack of flamers and one pack of Horrors. It would also be cool if your second fast attack choice would be Daemonic, I'd take Furies as they're fast and effective in close combat (and unique because they're undivided Daemons instead of the creations of one God).
i stand corrected soz about that
i agree wiht born, word bearers are funner, and more unique
i would say that BL is the standard army setup.
All of the other chapters are a twist of the book rules, that may allow more or less of something, maybe allowing you new things. While other chapters would disallow you sertain things.
Of course the BL is a good choice, but then you are a "slave" to the standard setup.
E.g The Night Lords may have more than one squad of raptors.
The Iron warriors may have more that one squad of oblitherators.
And as allready mentioned: If the Word bearers "sacrifice" one choice from their elite, fast attack and heavy support they may have one additional troop choice for each choice they "sacrificed". That is they may have up to nine troops choices.
As I see it the different chapters were not made to just make more colour schemes possible. They were made to add more fun to the game. Allthough your opponent may not always say the same thing...
But one point I have to mention, have accuired the models you have I can't say that is a especially good ground to start on, I would say you try getting some more figures, preferably thinking through what your tactic on the battlefield will be.
But enough about that, I would say you should chose the Word Bearers.

When beginning to collect Chaos, Black Legion may seem like a good idea. The wide variety the BL can field will enable the player to assembla all sorts of weird and deadly combos.
Somehow the BL is so general. When you deal with other Legions like the Alpha Legion for example. You have a complicated history which really defines the Legion for what it is: Sneaky bastards.
And then you can go on to look ad the Iron Warriors which are giant jackhammers, drilling through any defense.
Night Lords. A bunch of seemingly frail dudes running towards you. You laugh and aim your heavy weapons at them. Suddenly...they are behind your defensive line and are slaughtering all those neat little heavy troopers which you thought were safe.
Now looking at Word Bearers. They've got the gods on their side, which is...usually good. You wanna summon something, they're your thing. You wanna have a particularly "evil" force (evil as in: Anti-Imperial) then they are DEFINATELY your thing.
You can easily do alot of fluff around Wordbearers, their insidious evil nature nicely complementing the "usual" chaos stuff. Also the whole Dark Apostle thing really makes for a nice "fallen from grace" story.
If you feel like the variety of the BL appeals to you...Go for it! The Black Legion needs good generals to press on the advance into the wretched Imperium. But if the calling of the Dark Gods is your thing then you know where to go.
So...tell us what u decide when u do!

I like Death Guard. They can be either an assault army or they can be a shooting army. also they are the only chas that get true git. also they have a nice toughness and they are fearless.
