Anyanghasaeyo! Hangooksaram imnika? Nan Hankookeso sam yang dongan salrasumnida. Hangookmal peuosumnida.Originally posted by H0urg1ass@Feb 5 2004, 20:21
Just to fly in the face of convention, I give all of my units Korean names. Of course, this means that everyone in my whole army either has the last name Pak or Kim, but hey, who cares.
Man, Korean is hard w/out Hangul.
Anyway, my DE also have Korean names. My Talos is, literally, "fire sink". Heh, heh.
Wow! Somone who speaks Korean! Nea, Anyanghasaeyo. Hangooksaram animnida.
Ok, enough of that. Seeing Korean written with english letters is killing my eyes and taking me forever to sound out.
So you've lived there for 3 years, and you are learning Korean there? Are you Korean or just visiting? I know a lot of people who go to Korea to teach english, since you can make a killing at it without even having a degree.
I give my leaders names like: "blast effect" (pokpoonk hyogwa) or "striking power" (Ta geukreuk). Then I give units names like "blitzkrieg" (jungeug gesubchun).
It's great fun.
i mainly use latin, greek mythology, that kind of stuf. The entire structurs of my SM chapter revolves around the names of the Titans.

"Errr do you mean run away?"
"Thats the one"</span>
"Oh man, look at that."
"Over there, by that river of boiling souls."
"Well I'll be damned... it's a Starbucks."

I know it isn't highly original, but I've named my IG company from an American/Irish band called "Dropkick Murphys." Some of you might know it.
At first glance the name made no sense to me but then I realised it might some form of Irish slang. So therefore I looked it up on Thesaurus.com.
Dropkick= punch, kick, fire etc.
Murphy = to mislead, to trick, to delude etc.
Essentially, "Dropkick Murphys" could be translated into something like the firemissers, (missfirers). The perfect name for IG who never seem to hit anything with their crappy BS 3.
it depends on the background of the particular army
my thousand sons i give names of demons or egyption
my chosen of the sun (blood angel successors) us nahuatl, the language of the aztecs, so i get some crazy tounge twisters (huitzlepochtli, teoaymqui, xoxocoplotec)
my space woves obviously have norse names
doing the research for your army and names is rewarding, and adds alot to the fluff
here is an awesome site to go for names of any ethnicity and their meaning

well i am goin to use egyptian names for my tau and maybe some spanish, and for my blood angels i use anything, soem latin, spanish, english, german, its all good.
My space marines in latin, my Tau in Tau (what else????), my Dwarfs in a British-English mix
Rune and Norse names for my space Wolves and low Goth on my IG.
If Wolves were meant to fly, wouldn’t the Emperor have given them wings?
