I have finally saved up enough money to buy a carrying case for my army but I'm not sure which one to buy.
I field mostly infantry in my SM army but I need to fit two whirlwinds and two dreads in the carrying case also.
Second....half the infantry i field has a jump pack attached to it.So I'm nto sure if it will fit in standard infantry foam inserts.
Any suggestions of what kind of army case I should get?
(I am open to any kind of transport, not just GWs.)

The assault marines with packs should be able to fit in the normal sized slots, if not you can use scissors to clip the foam between 2 slots creating larger slots. These are big enough to fit a space marine bike lying flat, so should be big enough to fit 2 assault marines. With this method there should be enough slots to fit 2-3 squads per tray for assault marines.
If your wanting to fit the whole army in 1 case, then the green one i believe is the one that has the tank section. You should easily fit 2 dreadnaughts and 2 whirlwinds with a little extra room allowed. The you have a whole side for your marines. This way you have 1 case for your space marines.
Other options are army transport. I find a marine army fits nicely in the standard army transport 47.99 US. Even allows some room left over. Fantasy armies don't seem to fit well, the larger GW cases seem to work well for this.
Hope this helped. Worse comes to worse, go into a GW store and open up the case to have a look. If you thinking of a 2000 pt Space marine army your probably looking at a large case then
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I've found a great site for this.
They sell foam trays seperately. All GW sized and fairly cheap.
So you could buy the standard or big infantry box from GW and then buy some cavalry and tank trays from the above site. That way you can choose which to take before you leave.

I use a Sabol ArmyTransport Battalion. It's the larger version of their basic ArmyTransport case. they also make a vehicle case, called the Motor Pool.
The War Store.com carries them, and I'm extremely pleased with my Battalion.
You fill them up with whatever combination of various sized foam trays you like (from 1 inch for infantry up to 4 inch that can handle Land Raiders), and you can buy individual trays to let you have custom trays for every part of your army. All the trays have those little foam cubes that you pull out to make custom holes instead of the pre-set holes in GW cases. I've got a full Marine army stored in mine, including several vehicles, Termies, Assault Marines, and even some elements of a Daemonhunters force, and there's still room left over! The cases are made from tough materials (basically the same as suitcases and such), with pockets for dice, templates, books and whatever else you want (all zippered/Velcro closed). The Battalion even has those little wheels and a handle so you can pull it along instead of carrying it.
Here's a question while we're on the subject... those foam rubber trays, can't you get foam in sheets like that and cut it to shape? If so, anyone know where you'd find it?
Yo, i just bought the large army case today as it happens. 218 models it holds but ive cut pieces out to fit in my vehicles. I'm also a marine player with 2000pts+ worth of space wolves inc some large vehicles like the leman russ and the land raider but it all fits in pretty swarve. :w00t:
It sucks to have multiple cases to carry round IMO so its good to have the whole of my wolf-boys fit into a neat lil package.
only sucky thing about it was the stoopid strap thing you get with it... it lets you hold it like a bloomin handbag lol. but you dont have to stick it on... it went straight in my big lol
Yup it should hold jump pack troops fine
