That is, when is a ND6/3 roll a "(die 1 result) + (die 2 result)... + (die N result)" as opposed to "highest roll out of N dice rolls"?
for instance, leadership rolls are 2D6, where this means D6 + D6 roll, or turbo penetrator shot is 3D6 and means D6 + D6 + D6, where as a melta bomb assault is 8 + the highest roll of 2 D6 rolls (NOT added) or a chain fist where it's 6 + best of 2 D6 rolls (i think).
So which "ND6/3" rolls mean "highest out of N rolls" and which means "N rolls with results added"? is there a good way to remember?
Nope. All melta weapons and Chainfists have S8 + 2D6. Not the highest one but added together.
The easiest way to remember it is that the only case where 2D6 is pick the highest is difficult terrain and ordance penetration. Not a lot to ask.
