I am about finished with my Nid horde, and it just dawned on me, that I do not have a case to transport them in. I do not think that using an Army Transport would be smart since I would need a few Battalion size cases to move the 200+ figs that I have.
A tackle box could work, but I have never used one before....
If you have any ideas on how to move a large horde around please drop a line.
Well I know it's not much but here is what I think you might try. If you get the big green army case from GW and get a second set of infantry foam and you don’t use the tank foam you should be able to have about 220 models in one case. there is also what I have, my old boss sold me an old 4 pistol gun case and after I messed with the foam I can fit .... 165 ground troops, 12 heavy weapon teams, 3 Sentinels (not standing of course), and 6 tanks.
There’s my two cents and you can keep the change.
If you do things right people wont be sure if you have done anything at all.

They sell the BattleHive system which is a solid case that comes in 2 sizes. I have one of each, and the larger is truly huge. In it I currently hold my entire SM army, which has the following:
10 assault marines
Plus I have room for about 60- 70 more marines.
Solid construction, fair price, and fast shipping. I highly recommend it.
Marion: You're not the man I knew ten years ago.
Indiana: It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage.
For the last time, there are
NO FEMALE SPACE MARINES!!!!!
Do you know what those cases are?? Those are old style LP solid cases!! The trays appear to be the exact dimensions of an old style record and its a hard case that DJ's used to use. That's pretty smart actually as the case probably run around $20 from a record store for the smaller one at it looks sprayed black with a logo on it. Still if it fits as many minatures as you say i'll consider it
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I've been recently considering my carrying case issues, And up until MouseC112 mentioned it I hadn't really considered LP cases as a viable option.
But with my IG army ever growing (I intend to add 2 more chimera's and 3 more Sentinels this year) case options were becoming an issue.
I did some math yesterday with LP cases in mind. I found the following: Ebay LP 200 case
Looking at the dimensions I figured for less 2" inside so 14d x 14w x 28l internal. That's pretty good.
One of the main issues I see with other cases is that they never seem to come with enough foam inserts. Eventually you MUST buy more, regardless of case manufacture.
GW foam runs like so: 1 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 13 7/8, holds 36 figures per/ or 6 chimera size tanks for every stack of 2, and costs 20$ per 3 pieces
Sabol army foam = 1/2/3/4" x 7 1/2 x 13, holds up to 20 figs (varrying due to customability) and costs $7.50 per piece.
The concept I came up with was the following: I want a case to hold multiple armies, with tanks.
So, usig the LP case as a base you can do the following:
Hold 2 stacks of GW foam 14" tall (9 pieces) for a total of 18 trays. This can equal either 648 infantry models or 54 tanks (per every 2 stacks) or a good mix of both.
It could hold a varrying mix of Sabol foam, 3 stacks total, 14" high, with lots of room for books and misc. stuff. You can do the figure math on your own there.
If you buy just GW foam, that's $120. Then about $80 for the case (guestimate from a local dealer). Total $200, for a case that could hold 6 times what a normal GW case can. Savings = $100.
Going the sabol route you can spend anywhere between $90 and $315 (ouch) in foam.
OR you could have the best of both worlds: It could hold 1 stack of GW foam (9 pieces) and still have room for 2 14" stacks of Sabol foam. making for a nice mix of customization all around...and it still has room for books and misc. stuff.
Needless to say, for someone who has multiple armies, it looks fairly appealing. And I'm getting tired of dragging multiple boxes around.
edit: I forgot to mention It looks like the 200 Lp cases come in multiple colors and also have wheels on them.

Am i being simple, do GW sell the foma inserts seperately.
Yeah. You have to call it in though. It was $20 for a full set (3 trays with the topper piece) last year. I don't know what it is recently though.
Best cases ever!
