    how much terrain you use

does anyone follow the suggestion in the rulebook about using just enough terrain to fill one table quarter's size. i tried it out a few times and i think it works well. some people get anoyed by too much terrain, while others get anoyed by too littel. with too little, manuvering becomes less important and there is too much line of sight, often resulting in the clasic 'western shootout' or the 'WWI charge into no mans land and hope you don't get hit by the machineguns' sort of games. with too much terrain, there is no line of sight and it is hard to manuver due to the crowed situation, try getting a land raider through the 3" wide gaps between the buildings:tongue:. however with this way, i feel it is just perfect. a reasonable amount of terrain that doesn't over or under exagerate the battlefield.

so how much do you guys use? do you use the suggested amount?

We usually just place the terrain randomly until were satisfied, which I think is usually a bit less then 1/4 of the table, and that seems to work well.
Sometimes we just cram as much terrain as possible into the middle half of the table so that 1 model can just barely fit through the gaps and go from there, but that one's for necromunda so it's a bit different.

I voted for open spaces because FB works better that way. My games usually costist of a couple of hills, a wood and a building of some sort.

I typically use around abouts 25% terrain for 40k, my type of army - being dark eldar - really needs that much terrain to work at all, and so do tyranids and such. For FB, I still use quite a bit of terrain but not as much.

I usually play anywhere from 25% to 80% Terrain, and from personal experience the games with 80% terrain were the most fun and challenging.

80% of terrain is a huge ammount, after a bit of discussion about it, I'm still not convinced it would be balanced... though if you're a guard play and you say so... well I guess that says everything.

I've always preffered CoD games to ordinary ones and they have a larger ammount of terrain than usual, CoD just seems more fun, the missions are more fun in my opinion, the buildings grant me a cover save better than my armour save and it means I can pretty much always usually assault turn 1 since you only have to be 18" away.

It's not balanced, and that's the point. It's more of a challenge. However it is far from impossible to win.

I play alot of CoD games myself. I do agree that the missions are alot better than the standard ones. Besides I think that there is only 2 CoD games with VP. I hate VP games.

I've always liked alot of terrian, becuase i have alot of vehicals and i need some protection. However, i know that gives me too much of an advantage so i prefer to meet people in the middle. it is Fair for everyone and to me is challenging, as i have to think more carefully about my deployment and movement. Plus it still provides a good amount of cover...almost no terrain would be my personal nightmare. One time, i played such a game against a pure shooty army(Very min maxed ubber shooty) It wasn't even funny, i had no chance to manuver as he just sat back while i hopelessly tried to advance in some effective manor.
