SO LO guys and gals i was just flittering through my inbox and came across a link the GW shares were doing and was, dissapointed, GW shares have just plummeted in valur and so i read on:
COST REDUCTION PROGRAMME
In view of the Group's current trading performance the Board has decided to
accelerate and intensify its programme of cost reduction in the business. During
the next six months this programme will include:
* The closure of 35 loss-making stores
* The reorganisation of warehousing and manufacturing activities
* The centralisation of various sales support and back office activities
That's pretty darn epic, and i'm wondering how GW are upping their sales with their armies, i have heard that HE and VC's are on the market as well as CSMurfs
Now i don't know it this means more price rises or a price drop but supply and demand can only go so far...
Just thought y'all like a (quite old) heads up...
Also does anyone on LO hold shares?
I really can't think of anything witty to say.
i asked this in the other thread and i'd really like to know: how many stores does GW have?! I mean, if they have 45 worldwide this is bad, if they got 500 i don't really care!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

i dunno how manyu stores there are worldwide, but there are about 55 stores in the US. there are tons more in lots of countries. i would guess 500+, but i don't want to count all the stores on the websites that GW owns.
they wouldn't dare remove the only GW in my state. or would they? dun dun dun. to be continued.
As is in the press release, a lot of the reductions are coming in Germany and Central Europe, there's no mention of the united states anywhere in there. So Xenos, I wouldn't worry about your local store closing down, but if you're in Germany or other parts of central Europe, A) SHAME ON YOU! you should be buying more GW minis. And make sure you talk with your local redshirts and ask them if they're on the chopping block, so you know to start looking for another shop.

more witty remarks to come.
I went to the GW store here in Virginia @ springfield mall just last week. Guess what. It's not there anymore.
From the GW website:And from the thread in General Discussion (GW announce store closures to Financial Times)Products are sold through our own chain of 250 + Hobby Centers
All in all It seems like a normal Corprate - reorg. Looks pretty standard I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

the same thing that happened to shango happened to me. I took a trip down to the ontario mills mall, and the games-workshop was gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed, my local mall GW is gone too.
Sadly, it sounds like GW is doing what all major corporations tend to do when they start losing money. They are not looking at the big picture and the big wigs refuse to think it might be their fault. Corporate restructuring just glosses over the problem by gaining the short term benefit of not spending on poor performing infrastructure.
What GW need to realise is what is at the core of their profit loss. They are losing customers. They have been focused on gaining new customers so much over the last few years they fail to realise they would do very well to keep the ones they have as well. They are losing customers, some who have supported them for 25 years almost, because of poor customer relations, arrogance, badly written rules changes made with selling more models in mind, and greed.
When will GW understand that the answer to falling profits is not to increase thier prices? I do not buy GW products anymore uless they are on clearance in my local hobby shop. I dont buy anymore because I do not believe I am getting my money's worth and because of GW's general bad attitude. I have said many times that I would buy GW products again if they were reasonably priced and the company didn't treat its customers like idiots.
plastic unit boxed set - currently $40 - my purchases = 0
same boxed set - hypothetical $25 (it can be done, just look at LotR) - my purchases = 5
Current prices - $40 X 0 = $0.00 for GW
Hypothetical - $25 X 5 = $125.00 for GW
And anyone who knows what kind of discount the red shirts get while GW still makes a profit knows how bad we are getting ripped off.
The fact is there are many more games to choose from now. GW doesnt own the hobby anymore. These new games have miniatures, fluff, and rules just as good if not better than GW. They have better customer relations. And they have better prices. It is time for GW to become competitive. I have mentioned this exact thing in a thread concerning their recent survey.
The answer to falling profits is not the closing of stores. It is becoming competitive - with prices, rules, innovation, fun, and especially reestablishing customer relations.
wow, that sucks for you guys....in edmonton, they are growing like weeds. We have 2 more in the last 5 years, with a whole lotta rouge trader stores. Ive also heard a rumor that edmonton will be the new site for conflicts in alberta (take that calgary). All in all, things are thriving in oil rich alberta.
