Hello all, I couldn't decide where to put this thread, so I'm putting it here. Hopefully enough Witch-hunters/Daemonhunters/Guard players will read this to make it interesting.
I'm starting to put together a mechanized, Stormtrooper army, but I'm beginning to think, would it be more competitive to make this army using one of the other Imperial Codexes? (I am originally an Imperial Guard player).
I can see benefits of all three: The Guard would get the juicy ordnance and cheap sentinels to support the chimeras, but the daemonhunters could get Land Raiders and Dreadnaughts for support, making for more durable and reliable anti-tank vehicles... They would also get Inquisitors, which could make a cool twist for the fluff. Also, the Witch-hunters could throw in a few penitent engines, and rhinos would help mix it up a bit, too.
Basically, has anyone tried a mechanized Stormtrooper army through any of these codexes? Which would you feel would be the most fluffy/competitive/fun, and why?
EDIT: Another factor I just thought of - are all of the vehicles for the WH and DH at BS4? Meaning, their chimeras are more accurate than IG chimeras? If so... that's pretty cool.

If you play IG, you get access to doctrines, much greater access to vehicles and other units, and you can still ally in almost anything you might like from the Inquisition armies, save for Heavy Support choices.
On that topic, you're not missing anything from the DH side of things. Land raider tanks are hella expensive, and require the use of a GK Hero to unlock anyway, making the investment even more of a points sink. Honestly, there's nothing a single land raider (crusader) can do that can't be done as well by multiple IG vehicles bought for the same points. And it's always better to have more targets than fewer when it comes to fielding armour.
GK dreads are cool, but for we DH players that's our primary heavy weapons platform because, unlike the IG, we don't have much in the way of armour and otherwise no access to heavy weaponry at all. It's a relatively fragile unit but its all we got. As an IG player, you'd have no need for it at all. Besides, like the land raiders, you'd need a GK Hero to unlock it, so it would be expensive for an allying option, were that option available.
Now, if you could ally in Exorcists from the WH, that would be rockin'! But, since you can't, you'll have to make do with lame tanks like Leman Russes and Basilisks. Darn. Again, as an IG player, there are no other Hereticus Heavy Support options that would offer anything you can't already do.The codexes will tell you this, of course. Suffice it to say that Chimeras are identical to IG Chimeras and Rhinos are (for all intents and purposes) identical to those employed by the Space Marines.Originally Posted by Abraham Lincoln

Land Raiders and Dreadnoughts won't do much for you if you're playing IG. The only reason to play a pure Inquisitorial Stormtrooper list is if you want to play Radicals, in which case you get Daemonhosts, which are fun but not too effective.
So, you'd probably be better off playing a regular IG army with that Grenadiers (is that the right one?) doctrine. You could still paint and model them as Inquisitorial stormtroopers, it's not hard. But yes, I'd hazard that the IG codex makes a better stormtrooper army as it gives access to the Guard's far superior and cheaper vehicles; on that note, I hear that Hardened Veterans are better than Stormtroopers anyway.

The Bottom line is that it is so easy to ally IG and INQ that you can just go for IG and still get the benefits of the INQ contingents. I had a go at a grenadier mechanised army, i found that a few sentinels and a kitted out INQ lord worked very well.
