Okay guys. Im sorry if i start one of those "which army should i start next" threads, but i really am a bit torn between 2 armies, guard and ork. Now i play Grey Knights, so unsuprisingly the whole swarm mindset just appealed to me. Now i've done my research on both armies and ive basically just liked every aspect of both armies. models, rules, absolutely everything. Now i hated to ask you guys of this, but i really need just that one little bit that will help me choose whihch army to play; the fun factor. Why are ork and guard fun to play? What aspects of the army do you guys love? How do you play them? Oh and my friends play Nids, eldar, black templars, tau and necrons, so which armies would r eally be fun to play(for both ends)? I dont really care about the competitiveness of the army, that will come withh experience thanks guys.i hope to get just that little push towards a decision.

I voted Ork. They're nearly fearless, vicious in close combat, surprising at shooting, loads of fun to model, and theyre green. My most dreaded opponent as a Black Templar, the green tide is pretty much unstoppable in the hands of an experienced player. Also, as far as I myself have seen, there arent as much Ork players as there are Guard players. A good thing too... it would wreak havoc on my win record and my self esteem.

i love 'em both! Do you want comedy or an army which takes it's self more seriously? Do you want to theme your army historically or do you wanna send a bunch of green maniacs up the board which are destined to suffer huge losses and then cream Terminators ("those choppa-things lower my save to WHAT?")
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

Orks are, without a doubt, the funnest army in current 40k. Maybe it's the last vestiges of 2nd edition campyness leaking through, but regardless you'll just have buckets of fun every time you play as long as you keep an open mind and don't care about losing half as often as you win. I don't play them, but I've played against them, and trust me - it's equally fun from either perspective, which is rare.

I love Orcs and I don't play them either but playing against them and watching their battles is a hoot.
As a player of both armies, I cannot fairly vote on this, but allow me to give my perspective.
The guard are a customizable army that is competitive. It's many guns and awesome tanks strike fear in many of the enemies of the imperium.
The ork are the most fun to play, and a hobbyist wet dream as the conversion possibilites are endless. But, with the current codex and their crap armor save, I find you either win big, or get crushed. Personally, if I am looking for fun, I field orks, but if I am being competitive, I bust out the guard.
PS not saying the orks are not competitve, I just find it easier to win with the guard.

gota go with guard there are so many options and different ways to run your army and you have to love 50 conscripts with a commissar behind them.
Orkz you Umie! anyway they are green, awesome and have freaking rockets on there backs! (some do...) and cooler weapons, not to mention cute little grots

IG for me, but both struck me as an army to play for my self.
IG have endless converting possabilities as well, there veteran squads are one of those possabilites. IG sit and shoot with all there big guns, poor save, poor BS, and poor everything else except weapons, and with the right upgrades, LD wise, and thye suck in cc, for an effective army, you will wb having close to 120 models
Orks are the funny thing about 40k, probably more converting here then in IG(I'd hate to say it, since after all, the greenskins are my enemy). One of the hoardy armies in 40k, good in CC, not so good at shooting, they have a pretty shot up codex which is supposed to be redone by the end of this year or the begining of next year(not sure anymore).
Both are good choices, which ever one you choose you'll have fun with.
