Well I don't know about you guys and gals but at the Manchester, CT GW we have some pretty cool staff members there.
Just for some examples; I was there late, they were sweeping the floors. I spotted a length of barbed wire on the floor, they said I could take it.
pathofskulls was painting his wood elves, as well as talking about his list and how he couldn't find a particular model. IIRC Garret or Tom (I'll get the name later) gave him the model for free. nNt to mention that it was the WD edition.
Also Brian (who works there derrr) went to my school, I didn't know he played until I saw him working there about 6 months ago.
Also the staff there is just cheery almost all the time. Unless Payton's there... That's another story.
I know I've heard that GW staff can be a royal pita, but does your GW at least have some cool staff?

Well Im in a rural town so we dont have a GW here. But both times I've been down to the one in the city. They've been fairly 'cool'.
First time when I was just getting back into the hobby, the guy 'threw in' a free plastic glue, worth $12.
The second time I was after some clear flying bases, because one of mine broke under the hefty weight of a Fire Prism. He just pulled about a big box of bits-&-pieces and gave me some parts for free (not a complete flying base but it was all i needed).

in my gw it really depends on the staffmember, some are arses, others are pretty cool.
2 weeks ago i bought a chaos pred: 1 sprue missing (the right side tank sprue) and 1 too many (the older chaos accesory sprue). So the guy gave me contents of a chaos rhino, so i now have 3 (!) accesory sprues and i just have to mail order one side sprue to make a free tank!
The GW staff at my local store were always pretty cool. When I was doing LOTR with the movie hype on (I'll repent one day) they were out of boxes of warriors of the last alliance. However, for painting tutorials they had sprues of goblins and last alliance warriors, they were fed up with not having any reasonable sized evil miniatures for the newbies to paint so we agreed that I'd buy a box of lord of the rings orcs and trade it in for some last alliance sprues, they chucked in 4 extra guys for the inconvenience. Another time the box came with one sprue too few of bases (so 4) and the gave me the bases and again, 4 extra guys free. It's not just about the free stuff though, they're just generally cool most of the time.
Other times they've been a bit annoying though... there is the classic in your face all the time thing when you just want to browse for starters. Also, they're misinformed rumours and such that they often claim to know to get attention, whereas they have no extra way of knowing compared to anyone else and all those sort of things but they are nothing, and easily gotten over.
One time I brought in a scratch-made stegadon I had made out of a toy dinosaur, a balsa wood howdah and some old plastic skinks and I wasn't allowed to even paint it or work on it in the store let alone game with it... wasn't allowed to even have it out... I guess they're a bit touchy, something like that could inspire others to use initiative and convert instead of buying some of the more expensive products of theirs.
But yeah, GW staff over here = cool. Or at least they make the effort to try to be, pretty much none of them are dickheads.

I've never even seen an official GW store. All i've ever seen are 2 tiny shops in nearby cities, who also happen to sell some warhammer.
But, I'd love to go to a GW store some day, sounds like paradise on earth!
A Tau Ethereal was thought to have been killed today by a Bloodthirster. However, many Tau were seen fleeing the scene and are considered suspects.
I have found most of the Games Workshop staff I have dealt with are pretty cool and helpful. It can be a little annoying the way the pounce on you the second you walk in the shop, but then they are there to sell you stuff. I tend to know what I want before going to a GW shop so when they ask if they can help I just tell them exactly what I am after and they scurry off and get it. Once they have done the selling bit and have your money you can have a good chat about your army and games etc. I have even been to a GW purely because the store manager challenged me to a game.
I think the thing that makes their staff good is that most of them are keen on the hobby so know the product well as a result of that.
Helper monkey, bring me beer and donuts
you know funny thing that you brought up this subject, about 2 weeks ago i had ordered an imperial bombard and hydra (both complete kits) and when they came in there was a mix up and i got a bombard complete kit and a hydra conversion kit, the conversion kit said i needed the basilisk to convert it so the guy gave me a free basilisk kit!
most of the GW guys at my shop are pretty cool. I think Matt is the coolest. He is very helpful, understanding, and fun to talk to. He gives painting tips and is really interested in your army and its fluff + modeling/painting. Daves cool; but a bit too pushy when it comes to buying stuff. I never really liked the other guys, but then again they got replaced recently. haven't really gotten to know the new guys.
They gace me free templates when mine got stolen at games day, and when my white dwarf never came in the mail, they let me have one as a replacement.
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
Sounds like cool dudes, but I'm with MisterDutch. I've never even seen a Games Workshop..
Games Day in August will be my first contact. It is going to be mind-blowing.
