Ok this is a big question i need an answer to i play warhammer 40k and i like to make new models out of spare parts and if there is none around i make models out of clay.
A fue weeks ago a kid came up to me and said i cant make models out of clay or spare parts because i am taking money away from gw and they could sue me for it now i think he was just blowing smoke out his butt however is there eny truth to what he said.
Creating your own guys out of spare parts and putty perfectly fine.
Casting copyrighted models however is illegal.
I think as long as your not reproducing GW models through casting, you are not doing anything illegal.
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
No they can't sue you for making models from clay or from components that you bought. However, if you copy (like in a mold) any of their models then they could get testy.
Building models from parts and clay (or greenstuff) is encouraged. It's called conversion, their are entire GW articles on it.
My blast template of S10 AP2 will toast all terminators.
Jokes aside, as the others have said, if you attempt to reproduce GW models and are caught, legal action *will* be taken, so "sue me" isn't that far off actually. Be careful.Originally Posted by bloodmain

Clay? Clay? wouldn't Green stuff be better
you: I made these guys out of clay clay and spare parts
Someone: what? clay isn't made by GW you can't play with those! *goes tell everyone what you did
now with GS
You: I made these guys from spare parts and GS
someone: cool! all official GW stuff!
seriously though, doesn't clay take forever to harden? and shrink?
Create flames for a galaxy and it will be warm. Put a galaxy in flames and it will be warm for the rest of it's existence.
Clearing it up i do use just regular clay with gs used to make the armor but i dont use molds (sides i dont have the resorces for that) and i do use spare parts but from what i hear thats fine.
Thats perfectly fine in my opinion. You weren't molding models, you were converting them and useing peices for the conversion. Don't worry about it, but watch because if you play in tournements the figure has to be over 50% GW stock I beleive, I wouldn't worry about that though.
Whatever floats your boat to help you have fun and convert, do it.
So if I bought a box of Tactical Marines and a tub of white clay, and made 40 Marines out of all of it, using 1 Marine bit per model, that would be okay? hahaha
Seriously though, respect if you are making bits out of clay. That stuff I use solely for bases. It's so temperamental, and when it dries it breaks easily..
I'd say your not in any danger.

If it's for personal use, GW aren't really likely to do anything. Their only likely to come after you if you create moulds and start selling on the models you make to other people.
There aren't police roaming the countryside looking for people turning out their own moulds of GW stuff.

You can do it, I'm just warning you that unless you're a master sculptor and take super-good care of them they'll come out looking like poo.
