Welcome to Librarium Online!
So a while ago I posted a thread about what i should spend some money on yada yada yada. I decided a dreadclaw, but i got it for B-day anyway.
Now the matter at hand. for my graduation I got a wopping 1000$ with all the gifts combined from several relatives.
So far I have been planing to keep it around for when i need something(its always nice to have a little money ready for that kind of thing). And I'm sure many would agree with me. However, I'm torn between whether or not I should indulge just a little bit...:shifty:
For a while I've been eyeing those hell blades as well as that spined chaos beast from forge world. It just so happens that I have 1Hv and 2 fast attack slots left in my army. It would cost about 250-60$ including shipping.
So Heres the question, should i save every last penny, or indulge myself just a bit.
I have a feeling i already know what people are going to say though:x
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
Now Im one of the cheapest guys around, but I say spend a little. I have heard good advice from someone in money management. He says to always spend a little bit of what you have on fun. If you dont, you will less happy and resent the savings. It will help you save in the long run, but only if you do it in moderation and set limits. My advice would be to pick one of the things you would like to buy and get it. Save the rest of the money for your future and save the other purchases on your list for future birthdays/Christmas or whatever.

If you're planning to go to college/university and will need to take out loans, I'd say spend a little on yourself and save the rest.
Actually, I think that's what I'd say regardless :)
Only a Hellblade, Dreadclaw, and Spined Beast? Yeah sure go ahead. But draw the line when those Titans and Imperial Fortresses start looking tempting. If you take advantage of all the things most colleges have available you don't actually need much pocket money, which is likely what you'd use that money for.

hmmm. koss, thats a toughy i mean on one hand sure its great to indulge but u never know u just may need the money later on in the near future. Ultimately its really up to you since after all your the only one that truly has a good understanding if you need the money or not, if you feel financially secure i say to hell with it, go ahead you deserve it.
How much "other" money do you have? Like money in the bank, savings, college money, have at home already, etc.
If you have enough for college, and enough to cover an emergency, then spend that $250.
Just remember that $250 is 25% of what you just got, and that's a lot to spend on one thing at one time. If you don't need the money, then go ahead and spend it. If you do need it, you really should save it. Life is more important than a game any day, and from the sounds of it, you have a big enough army already.

Despite the obvious that I voted to spend something for yourself I would say that you should divide the money to two equal shares! Spend one half or less than that and the other half and whatever you save from the other half save it for further use...

Those few can be pciked no rpoblem as long as you gain more than you spend you'll be fine.
Your just giving about 1/4 of what you gained and a bit of fun will keep you busy for some weeks or even months
I'll throw in my two cents as words of... (wisdom?)
I've been in that situation before, and still find myself in it when I get performance bonuses at work, etc.
I can tell you what has worked for me and why, though ultimately its up to you.
Step 1: Save it. Take the whole amount and squirl it away in an account you don't normally touch.
Step 2: think about what I want: I usually get a LOT of ideas on how to spend my newfound loot, and admittingly they all sound great and I want to do/buy it all, but from my experience, just buying it all only lands you extra stuff that you may not even use.
Step 3: I prioritize which one(s) I want most. In the case of 40K stuff, what will I want/use the most when I get it, even more, what am I most likely to actually get excited enough about to sit down and get it done (painted and all) in a timely fashion.
Step 4: Acquire those targets one at a time. Once that money is saved, its yours, whenever you want it, nothing says that you NEED all of those things at the same time, especially if you model/paint like me and only concentrate on one project at a time. And, if you find yourself changing your mind about what you thought you wanted so bad, you still have the $1000 - XXX to do with as you please.
I guess my point is, no, you don't have to SAVE IT for a rainy day, it may or may not happen. BUT learning to take a realistic attitude on the spending is far more valuable in the long run anyhow.
Hope this helps.

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
I'm in the same situation, here's what I'll be doing:
Take $500. No less. Toss it into a savings account, pretend you don't have it.
Take $250-300 of the rest, do with it what you want.
Keep $200-250in your account for things like movies, dinner, taking that special someone out, etc.
I sorta left from this, but I heavily recommend it.
