Here's a little thread I've thinking about...here are 4 armies that most people start with...but what is so special about them? :
EDIT: Ok if you want
Don't forget marines, Necrons, and Chaos! :o
I assume most start with them as they are the most popular and apealing
Check out ==My== blog: www.bnhblog.blogspot.com
90% of my friends started with marines, because the guy at the hobby shop told them they were the best army to start with, but now we got tierd of all marines so now we got some varity.
He said the marines were the most forgiving, easy to paint, and you can win with baisc stratagy. Thats why they got them
I don't know but it dosen't seem really fun when it's all newbie-freindly...I like it when you have to work hard (yeah right! ) to found what are the weakness and the good points of this and that...
Eldars- Most people I know said that if you know how to play with them you're sure you're gonna win...not much fun
Tau- Not that good in hand to hand combat...
'Nids- Not that good for long range...
And for Orks- Mucho fun...
Here a little question since I made this post a freind asked me which army should he start with between Tau, Orks and 'Nids...what would you guys say?
I would say Orks because they're pretty balanced and fun to play...as for 'Nids they lack of long range and Tau for hand to hand...
I would say that the Space Marines are the best to start out with. They seem to be an all-a-round army both in range and close combat. Some Chapters are better in some areas than others, but it all come down the same. I think what makes them good to start out with, is their ability to hit and take hits well, at least that was the reason I went on.
If Wolves were meant to fly, wouldn’t the Emperor have given them wings?
Well of the choices you listed, I would say Tyranids. I've never played with them myself but the idea of a bunch of stabbing running pointy creepy crawlers just sounds like fun. Makes me think of Starship Troopers or something...too bad I play IG...we got tore up for most of that movie...
And there's nothing like having your opponent afraid of you and trying to stay as far away on the board as possible so they can get in a few frantic shots before you smash them in hand to hand... Goooo BA
Flat out, no questions asked: Eldar. Unlike the favored of GW, us Eldar Players either learn to play DAMN well, or we quit. Sure its a harsh sort or weeding-out process, but it ensues that the majority of Eldar Players are damn good at the game.
Eldar Armies can be specialised for any role, be it cc, shooty, psychic armageddan, fast moving, anything you want. (A bp and ccw instead of a Bolter is not close combat specialization, sorry.) And, unlike most races, we don't hve single overbearing strength to help us out: We dont have good armor, we don't have high toughess, we don't have Ordinance Weapons, we don't get any of the really easy to use stuff. As a result, many folks call Eldar Cheesy, because unlike their flat, boring armies we have to use whatever we can to win.

Wait, you mean that optimism isn't fashionable anymore?!

Soup's up, bitches!
Personally, out of the armies listed, I like Tyranids, Space Marines, Eldar, and Tau, for straight out simple coolness.
Tyranids, yes lack long range weaponry, but it also depends on the pointsize. If you get a fairly large game, grab 2 carnifxes, 2 tyrants, and use those as your weapon platforms while rushing with the rest of the swarm. Obviously that's just a basic tactic, nothing special (so don't go criticizing it ) lol
Tau, stand back, try and shoot them to death. I don't know Tau that well, so that's what I would assume they are good for.
SM you can get in close or not. Granted they are not a specialized role for anything, but they, like everyone else has said, are well rounded.
Eldar, now I want an eldar army, but the amount of money you'd need to spend to have an army the right size with enough variety to customize for any situation/adversary, would be expensive imo. I know they would be fun, and take a lot of strategy, just from reading over their units section in the basic rulebook.
So in short, I'd say go with either Tyranids (b/c you can sorta make them into a shooting army) or SM, or even Eldar if he has a lot of time and money.
"Can you put that in a memo and title it '***** I already know!'"
Church: "Ok, so we're agreed? You first!"
Sarge: "Get on with it, Griff."
Griff: "I'd just like everyone to know: that I suck."
Griff: "And that I'm a girl..."
Church: "What else?"
Griff: "And I like ribbons in my hair, and I want to kiss all the boys."
Sarge: "This has to be the best surrender of all time."
That would have to apply to Orks too...Originally posted by Pandora@Mar 2 2004, 01:59
...we have to use whatever we can to win.
Tyranids vs Orks
Tau vs Eldar..
Who will win?
to be continued next post lol
