I love the GK Termies, I don't care if they were rubbish they would still get a place in my army cos they look so lovely and shiny.

However, I think that it should always be kept in mind that some of the reasons they are very good such as ignoring Inv saves with Pyscannons and Incinerators only really come into their own when playing Daemons. Against Imp Guard for example - they are overkill and normal termies would be ust as effective.

Yes I know you can fry Eldar Farseers and warlocks. but everthing in a Daemon army is Inv saves. Imagine how scared they are of incinerators.

With our termies, as with all termies, the urge is great to throw them into the midst of the enemy...(it does work as a huge fire magnet and the amount of time you survive may surprise you )

However with this valuable unit it is sometimes the course of wisdom to "play it safe " with them
(up until turn 3 or 4anyway ) and then throw them into the mix at the critical moment.

using them as a "fire platform" is a good option (deploy normally. No DS ) as they can protect an objective (few will want to assault them) and dish out firepower over 36" (while shrouded)
for objective holding you can even consider using the seldom used Holy Relic (a few extra ws5 st6 attacks never hurt)

Alternatively they can slowly close on an objective (behind cover as much as possible) with 5 stormies as troops hiding behind them(people will ignore the stormies untill they realise, too late, what you are doing) and then make the mad dash at the last minute.

They cost a lot so dont lose them on their first turn in the game.
(Please,Please these guys are meant to live for centuries)
They look cool, they are cool and they will earn their points back in tactical terms if you exercise a little caution.
Mad story from a 4th Edition game. vs. Necrons
A monolith was causing total carnage among my guys and i had lost all my Anti Tank stuff.
I had only my GM left with even a remote chance (he had hammer hand)
so i rolled to move through cover...made it with in assault range
so i rolled for Hammer hand...made it
so i rolled to assault a skimmer (4th edition needed 6s) made one...one hit only...oh well i tried...
    so strength 8..vs 14...need a 6....roll i made it UNBELIEVABLE!!!
so i may have stunned the thing at least...
roll on damage chart....6 yep you heard it 6... KABOOM
    Chapter 666
    now you know why.
never write off even a single Grey Knight Terminator
it was one of my best moments ever
you should have seen my friends face....HA

I love my termies. I played a small 1k point 2v2 (GK/Eldar vs Chaos/Necrons) today, and my GM with a retinue of 5 termies were assaulted by 20 necron warriors. I dropped a holocaust wiping out a good bit of them, then cleaned house with the rest. My termies were unscathed but there were no necron survivors. It does come down to the dice roll at times though because in an earlier game they asaulted a squad of thousand sons and got wipped out horribly because I rolled more 1s then I thought humanly possible. =/

I play against my friends Daemonhunters with Imperial guard an dark eldar

I have to throw a rediculous amount of firepower at his GKTs with both armies.

Luckily, i can almost guarnatee i will be able to choose who i want to fight them with using the dark eldar. I usually hit them with a fully pimped out dracon suported by 9 warriors and an agoniser scubbus. The GKT will usually bring down all the warriors and the scubbus before my archon can finish them off (which is annoying because that ties up my most powerful man for half the game)

Ill just never forget the time i took the ENTIRE 5 man GKT squad as slaves. that must be my proudest WH40K moment

Heresy ! we will hunt down and liberate our fallen brethren!

Just played a 1650 pt vs DE and got one imobilised LRC and most of one full GKPA squad wiped out but thrashed every DE on the board .
sad part is i used the GKPA squad as bait with my GK termies in the LRC nearby which worked in that it drew the DE into close combat and then i hoped out of the LRC and rolled short on my assault... leaving the termies doing nothing and my GKPA guys to clean up...
never underestimate the "regular joe" even our GKPA troops kick @ss

The GK's tend to do well against DE's, IG's, Orks, & nids (non-TMC's) in close combat because they have such poor armor saves. However, against MEQ's (marines, necrons, witchhunters, etc.), they will usually fare a little above average. Against a lot of the other army's elites (terminators, banshees, pariahs, bloodcrushers), they won't last. It all depends who they are matched up against. That's where the GKT's come in. The GKT's will take out anything that the GK's can't.

I was just recently in a 2v2 game. I had a GKGM+4 GKT's. With them, I almost survived a direct plasma cannon hit, 5 deepstriking chaos termies w/combi-plasmas in rapid fire range, and a rapid fire & assault by Kor'sarro Khan w/7 marine bikers + 1 attack bike. 1 died in the plasma blast and 2 to the 10 plasma shots (the GM took a wound). I then proceeded to kill the 4 termies (haha...1 succumbed to Gets Hot!). The bikers took another wound off of the GM with their shooting and killed the last remaining GKT in assault, losing Khan to the GM's force weapon. The GM managed to tie up the bikers for 2 turns and wiped out 4 bikers (including the attack bike) before getting p-fisted to death. Not bad for a day's work.

GKT are what attracted me to the Daemonhunters in the first place. (along with numerous other fans!).

I love the way they look and the fluff behind them. As far as playing them is concerned, i rarely field them as they are expensive but when i do they are the shining stars of my army.

I run my GKT's as cautiously as i can, letting the other units i have lead. This is because i feel that they do well on the counter charge (what GK unit isn't??) The only thing i like to avoid are pretty much any other CC specialized squad. for example. Shrike, Chaplain, 5 x vanguard. = super death to expensive units.

So for cases like that i tend to lean toward my PAGK to lead the charge. GKT's give my CC that much needed 'Oomph'.
With the larger horde armies i prefer the mass amount of PAGKs. I feel i have a much bigger safety net. for example you can destroy horde armies by pure combat resolution and sweeping advances.
(this idea was inspired by seeing a space marine chaplain with lightning claws win by causing more wounds to a 20 man conscript squad)

All in all i think they are the Clean up Crew.

    I'd rather more PAGKs.

    Naturally.
