starting GK army, advice where to begin.

sorry if this has already been asked-most likely.

i want to do a themed army which avoids using any inquisitors/henchman. just pure GK-
(i wanna do a emperor custodian theme GK army)

i was thinking along the lines of - to begin with

    2 x 5 GK's
    1 x 5 GK terminators - (paladins)
    2 x Razorbacks
    1 x Dreadknight

all heads swapped with scibor custodian themed helmets or high elf white lion helmets.

    cheers doodz

I bought a Dreadknight early on too and regretted it. It's hard to fit it in at the points you'll be playing at with a starter army. The alternitive I'd suggest (and has worked VERY well for me) is to eBay some Assault on Black Reach dreadnoughts for 15ish bucks. A pair of those is good support, then you just need a few more terminators or GKs based on what you want.

Very true, Dreadknights are a huge points-sink. Maybe they could "dominate" the game at low points, but not usually. Dreadnoughts are a better starter choice, as they can help spread out enemy anti-tank fire (4 vehicles is better than 2 and one Monstrous Creature!). Also, Dreadnoughts are going to provide the anti-tank which is (no offense) utterly missing from that list with their multi-meltas.

But you know you want Henchmen. And Inquisitors. Lots of them. Deep down inside, you know it.

Necrons - 3000 Points: 13W/0D/0L - Death stands above me, whispering low...

I swear AT my Psyfleman Dreads. I cannot believe how unlucky I have been with them (and my Vindicare)

I do have two Dreadknights and when I use one, I use both. Yes, they are a points sink, but I have had good use from them.

Even with Twin-Linking? That sucks. If you want to see a shooting unit REALLY shine: try a Purgator squad, 4x Psycannons, with a Psyocculum Inquisitor and shoot at anything with even a whiff of "psyker" about it.

OP: Take none of Tuatara's heresy to heart.

Better yet, Purgators take Incinerators for free. stick five of them in a razorback and drive into the enemy's lines. IF they destroy the tank, all that does is reveal 4 S6 template weapons ready to shoot.

Hey, throw twin-linked lascannons on the razorback for 35 pts. Get rid of those pesky land raiders/monoliths before you get there.

I swear by my psy-backs for anti tank goodness,
85 points for a razorback with TL Assault Cannon and psybolts.
throw some henchmen in there with meltas and you've got almost 20 inches of melta threat range for 127 points.

I do however find myself frequently swearing at my vindicare.
he can't hit the broadside of a land raider.

As you could have guessed, that suggestion was kind of a joke

Personally, I love my Vindicare, but cover saves really make him a lot less effective... Guy's got like a 200% chance to one-shot anything... oh, wait, 4+ cover!

I've had him kill an ahnilator barge first turn,
ghost ark second and then shoots off a lords invul,

But when I really really need to make the shot he always wiffs.
Does he get rending on those 4D6 of armour penetration?

at my local gaming store the ruling for it is 3(for being a sniper) +4d6 and any 6's on those rolls rend,
That's some serious tank hunting goodness!
