I made this list as another test-run to take up to the local shop. I was wondering if perhaps replacing all of my Silver Helms with dragon princes would be a good idea. Also, I decided on a magic based army- taking the suggestions of many of the other members around here. I suppose that since our nobles are really killing machines, it's better to take the mages- i have fair luck with magic. Heres my list, still Caledorian.
21 Lothern Seagaurd: 283
(will be ranked 7x3, unless i need the combat resolution in which case the fold to 5x4)
10 Archers: ==
6 Dragon Princes: 290
-standard bearer, banner of sorcery, drake master, amulet of fire
2 units of 6 Dragon Princes: 200pts/unit
1 Tiranoc Chariot: ==
1 Repeater bolt thrower: ==
Lvl2 Dragon Mage: 435
-silver wand, ring of fury
Lvl 2 Mage: 162
-jewel of dusk, steed
Lvl 2 Mage: ==
The way I see things, that will give me three mages with 9+ D3 powerdice, and a bound item. Plus the 'Reckless' rule will give my Dragon Mage extra dice when he casts a spell (which is why i gave him the wand so that he can know/cast more). This isn't meant to be a competietive list, just a good list. I want to keep that dragon mage to keep with the Caledor theme, plus I like the rules for them, and the way they scare novice/first-time foes.
Its a pretty small list.. If you face any kind of shooting, every shot is really going to hurt. Especially from artillery. I see you quickly running out of combat threats.
The magic phase is very strong though. I'd almost drop the naked mage, if you can't afford to equip him, and add more troops. Great setup on the dragon mage, probably the best you can give him.
Looks like a pretty good themed list, just slightly lacks numbers as I said.
seeing as how i got to see u play with this list the other day it is an amzing list even though there arent a lot of guys its still a hard list to beat just because of the mages but the mages didnt get to do much in our game what they were really good for was dispeling magic what did the most damage was the dragon princes so from what i saw of this list it was amzing
The mages really didn't get much in the way of dispelling, most of those dice came from our combined pool. I would have run out of dice very quickly actually, since I only had 5. They also didn't manage to get many spells off, because of my bad rolling. They did function as I expected though, averaging about 14Casting Dice per turn, and just burning up the enemy's dispell pile before blasing away with Fury of Khaine off the ring, and Curse of Arrow Attraction off the naked mage. The dragon mage died too easily, because i was too kill-happy and raced to the middle of the field amidst a hail of arrows and gunfire. He should be allowed to wear light armor or something...
As for cavalry, the dragon princes are the way to go. They are only 9pts more than a Silver Helm. They hit twice as hard as other heavy cavalry units in the game, and cost only 1.5 times as much (2x total damage, 2/3 totalcost = AMAZING)
The Lothern Seaguard were actually pretty good, the 7x3 format made their shooting worthwhile, and the dwarves would have been doomed had the charged uphill with Curse of Arrow Attraction and a nice Stand and Shoot ability.
That list is going to stay I beleive.
You seem to imply in a few posts that Seaguard can shoot in more than one rank? I'm new to Fantasy (been a 40k player for awhile), and my interpretation of Martial Prowess and the shooting rules lead me to believe that this is not the case. Perhaps you could walk me through your reasoning? (or point my at a thread where it has been reasoned so).
Ah, you ask a good question.
The Seagaurd do NOT fire in multiple ranks. The catch though, is that if they are put onto a hill, they will fire with an additional rank (like all missile troops on a hill)
granted, i am tossing in the disclaimer that this may be wrong, perhaps it changed in the new rules, but we had enough people watching that SOMEONE would have called me out if they only fired in one rank.
The reason that I elected to take my LS in a 7wide format is precisely because they only fire in one rank. I can take 10Archers, who are gone when the fighting starts, or I can take 21 Seagaurd in place of my spears, who will fire just 3 less shots per turn, but furthermore will stand up and deal 28 attacks on a stand-and-shoot.
