Herro again all,
I thought I would post another list I have tested, and see what you all thought, where I could make improvements, where I can cut costs etc.
Dragon Mage Lvl 2: 435pts
Ring of Fury
Mage Lvl 2: 185pts (Will pick high magic, for shield of saphery and one other depending on opponent)
Seerstaff of Saphery
Mage Lvl 2: 185pts (Magic to be decided when opponent known)
17 Spearmen: 183pts (Mage here)
17 Spearmen: 183pts (Mage here)
15 Pheonix Guard: 330pts
Banner of Sorcery
Keeper has Skeinsliver
6 Dragon Princes: 225pts
Banner of Ellyrion
PD: 8 + D3 + 1 Bound
DD: 5 + 2 Scrolls
The main trick to this army is to gain the first turn. That way you can advance your units to advantageous positions where their magic can be used to it's full effect. Unless your enemy sees your list, you should be able to get the bound spell off first turn into some unsuspecting war machine crew, further protecting your dragon mage from harm. Your eagles should be able to advance, along with your chariots to get closer to the enemy.
Let me know what you all think.

I really like this list lots of hard hitters, magic and more core than i usely see ;o You seem to have the idea of what your doing so there not really any room for improvement. I would mayby suggest if you not facing magic heavy armies and perhaps like khorne take guardian pheniox or sacred incense instead of the trinket. Thats all i can suggest with little experance using the elves.
with the 2 eagles and the dragon mage trying to pull his trick off on turn one there shouldnt be a war machine left standing lol, this will reall allow you to use use dragon the best of his ability. i like the hard hitting units they should really break down ur opponent by the time ur footsloggers get across the board, and they should be unscathed because of all the attention being diverted by the faster/bigger units I like it xD i think its a solid list
What an excellent list admirably composed, I will try it out myself giving credit to the author fo course. I will hovever change the charriots for a second unit of dragon princes. Hats of to the ninja.
I have also been trying to come up with a halfway decent 2k dragonmage list. I think you may have hit it on the nose Ginger. Like Aenar said though, I will probably switch the chariots out for DP's or Reavers, and maybe switch teh pheonix guard out for White Lions or Swordmasters. (I love that all the elite elven infantry costs the same!)
Really its just a difference in personal preferences though, I dislike chariots for their fragility, and like some of the harder hitting elite infantry.
"I am the architect of fate!"
Nice list, the only thing i would suggest is for the first mage if you know that you are taking shield of saphery as one spell then take the seerstaff off him because you are only really getting 15 points back and 30 points are better spent elsewhere especially when its a mage in question..
That's a really nice list. Even nicer because I have the models to run it if i want!
But, the two units of Spears, I'm guessing you don't plan on using them as actual combat units? Because that mage up front is going to get challenged or picked out for attacks and will be a dead man.
Of course, the alternative I guess is to use archers or something, who are more expensive than the spears.
I'm with everyone else on dropping the Chariots for DPs. It makes the army more balanced, and the chariots are WAY too fragile. On the charge, it gets D6S5 hits, whereas the knights probably get 8 or so S5 hits in a unit with 5 or more wounds and a 2 plus save. Plus, a cannon only kills 1DP, instead of the whole chariot.
That's all I'd really complain about though, and since you can't fix the spear thing- nice list.
Thank you all for your kind words. I can see your point about the chariots. I was also considering changing some of the equipment on the mages and removing the 2 tiranocs for a lion chariot, and trying to get another eagle.
Anyway, I think I will try and get that other unit of dragon princes. I have the models, so I think they could be used.
um... i'd rather see you take the two tirranoc chariots rather than the Kitty Kart.
The DPs are still going to hit as hard as the WLC, and have all of the same advantages that we already mentioned (extra wounds, reliable attacks, SURVIVABILITY).
The WLC though, while it does offer more attacks at a higher strength, is still only a low toughness, low save, four wound chariot. Worse yet, that problem is compounded- because where you originally had TWO of those chariots, you now only have one very expensive one. Certainly it offers a great deal of damage on the turn it charges, but it can't act independently because it lacks the same staying power that it would need. Even if you used it in conjunction with your current unit of DPs, you would have the problem that the DPs are going to outrun it or be forced to slow down and take bullets.
The DPs and the WLC are both going to be fire-magnets, and any smart opponent will know to take down them down piecemeal. The DPs would get hit first, since it will take longer and they will be in his face quicker. Then, once they're out, he'd target the chariot. You have a better chance of sucking in fire and having enough survivors to deal damage if you opt to take the 2 units of DPs.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Chariot, it's a very characterful addition and adds alot of flavor to the army (even though with two units of DPs and a DM you'll have a solid Caledor theme) it's just not as hard hitting as it's points cost would suggest. Maybe use it in fun games, and save the second unit of DPs for competetive games?
That WLC just shows one of the main problems with the elf list- all of our points are spent on attacks, WS, and ASF. Nowhere do we have a unit that can be relied on to stand it's ground and be a 'tarpit'. Even our elite greatweapon-heavy-hitters only manage a 5+ save! And that's the best infantry save in the army! The Pheonix Gaurd are looking like the "come from behind" popular elite unit.
