As at total opposite to my other HE army which is geared for offense i thought i might try the opposite, any comments advice greatfully recieved.
Archmage LvL4 seerstaff ring of fury 330pts
Mage LvL2 jewel of dusk sacred incense (with swordmasters) 180pts
Mage LvL2 anuulian crystal 175pts
Noble BsB armour of calledor great sword 143pts (with swordmasters)
19 spearelves full command
19 spearelves full command
18 swordmasters + banner of sorcery 350pts
5 shaddow warriors
1 great eagle
3 repeater bolt throwers
should be exactly 2000pts
Whoa! magic heavy!
the mages should help the SM get over the board and start their choppy stuff, esp with the magic banner. the eagle and SW will help too.
good choice on both spears and the 3 RBT - will prove devastating! the only thing i have is that they might be too outnumbered (and i know we usually are!) to be a defensive army. You could try dropping the archmage back to a normal mage and cramming in another ranked up unit but i dont know whether you should listen to me or not cause the arch mage does provide a strong base for magical assault of doom...
you could just try it out and see where it needs to go from here but it's a pretty sound plan
I was not planning on moving forward, rather waiting for the enemy to come to me whilst being bombarded by magic and RBT and slowed up by the eagle and SW. I would hope with this level of magic that enemy magical movement and missiles would not get through. this only leaves enemy war machines since i should be out of range of most of their shooting (also thats what the sacred incense and sheild of saphrey is for) and the SW and eagle should take care of their war machines. I agree I am probably too outnumbered for a defensive army, counterattacking once they have arived at my side of the board and hopefully very weakened by the magical and missile barrage may prove effective. To keep to the sapheran theme I can realistically only go magic heavy with a very limited choice of troop types. I beleive that a pure sapheran army should only contain swordmasters, spearelves, archers, ??silverhelms and possibly any of the light scouting troops available, eagles, SW or ER since any of these could be adding the mage lords in scouting the enemy this severley limits the army choices available. Thanks a lot for the advice and comments.
if anything, he'll be moving back as the enemy comes forward so he can shoot and magic the enemy. I think this would be a good call for flames of the Phoenix and watch the enemy burn. The shadow warriors are going to need to march block and take out warmachines and that may be hard depending on your opponent. I think bad luck, poor deployment or terrain is the only thing that can keep you from winning. Getting the right spells is imperative though (as is with any magic heavy army) so roll the 2 guys first, and then pick the spells you just have to have. I'm not sure the annulian crystal is the wisest choice, I think maybe a scroll and power stone with the silver wand might be better or at least more versatile.
The other reason to hug the board edge (though this is hard, since most spells have ranges) is to avoid rear charges from tunnelers, ambushers and the like.
Looks good, lots of power dice, tell us how it does.
