I will give you a rough outline into what i am thinking: most people dont do this and it is so important to show people where you are comming from! I have through this list over and over and I believe it is well rounded and can play in all roles of the game (I may be wrong thats why i am posting it online!) I have a solid block on phoenix guard for a anvil(well this unit could be either white lions or swordmasters but i like the tarpit anvil. i have spears for of corse the +1 core i have to have, plus the can act as a flanking force for the pheonix guard. my noble will be in the phoenix guard to add some killing power with the great weapon, and being a bsb he will make my two units a strong anchor. the mage will be placed in the spearelves. i believe i have enough magic defence with a lvl 2 and 2 scrolls. my shooting is covered from my 2 RBT. my dragon princes will add some long range flanking adding the hammer to my anvil. giving them a reaver banner will make them a little easier to manouver. i took ellyrion reavers to take out possible warmachines and add some cover for my princes, possible working in tandum with them. i have shadow warriors for march blocking, hunting mages, taking out warmachines, taking out fast cav and adding a little firepower (not main use of corse). i believe i have covered all roles needed to be sucessfull. each unit has a purpose within the army and i believe that if i can use all the units correctly with little mistake this list could be great. i wanted a list that needs not to be tailored or changed for any other army(gears, banners can change). be very harsh and cretique well. please dont assume i know everything about high elves... im a new player to fantasy...took a 2 year rest from 6th. i have read almost all the articles in this forum from tactics to army list so i have not put this list together blindly to waste your time. thanks you for all your patience and time...i know the massive paragraph has no spaces and is hard to read my appologizes.
i love the phoenix guard as well for their ability to bog down units. all big three killy infantry we have just has a different taste but still useful.
the only thing im thinking is that your cav units will race ahead to a march blocked army (compliments of the SW) and the PG and SpearElves will get bogged down in and not be able to catch up over the board in time to help them out and this could be dangerous for your Dragon princes survival. giving the noble to the PG could solve this problem though with the extra hits and so could the long range of the RBT
it is actually a very sound list, well devised all corners.
most of us HE players settle for something similar like this because it has a balance of units, malleable playing style and some of the cooler looking and more different specials combined with quite simply IMHO the best core choice any army has and the most rounded and common choice for HE armies.
The good thing about this list is that every unit has a speciality area of the game and each has a specific job attached to it. this is another one of my only concerns is that if one fails in it's role can something pick it up? This is just being too critical though
