- archmage lvl 4, guardian phoenix, ring of fury, jewel of dusk
- mage lvl 2, seerstaff of saphery
- HE noble, gw, HA, shield
- 19 spearelves full command
- 18 spearelves full command
- 18 WL with full command and Banner of Sorcery
- 2*5 Dragon Princes (champ and musician)
- 2 Eagles
- 2 RBT
Im trying to build a HE balanced army but slightly magic oriented. I will get, at least, 10 Pwr dices, plus fury of khaine.
My real problem concerns on how to deploy the mages. The noble will be deployed in a spearelves unit (to add a bit of power to the unit). But where should i deploy the mages? Should i deploy one inside the other spearelves unit and the other around the rbt? or both around the rbt?
Opinions about this specific problem, as well as thoughts concerning others you might see, would be greatly appreciated
I agree with everything BuckeroO said, a very good defensive army list. With a defensive army the BsB is even more important so I would go with changing the noble to a BSB with GW and armour of caledor. One other point i would drop the champions from the DP and replace them with standards( for a garanteed +1 CR rather than 1 more attack) you could then give one of the units the banner of ellyrion. A suggestion don't think of the DP's as two units but as one unit divided into two. Static CR is what kills elite heavy cavalry like the DP's if the two units work in tandem the unit with the banner of ellyrion should be able to hit your opponents in the flanks whilst the other unit hits them from the front most of the time with a much greater chance of breaking even big infantry blocks ( providing their not stubborn or unbreakable) because they lose their one great advantage, the static CR.
Sorry missed out a few points. If you can get the war banner for the unit hitting from the front there is very little that will survive such a charge, unless you have appaling dice luck, with the exception of the units listed previously eg, stubborn and unbreakable units which you should not be tackling with elite heavy cavalry anyway. I used to use ellyrion reavers for the flanking unit but i find they very rarly survive to get into the possition to charge against the opponents i play against. Of course if you are playing an opponent with multiple small units use the two units of DP's independantly. The most important aspect of producing a sucessful army is playing games, to gain experience with your army and thereby tailor it to your playing style and to learn your opponents stenghths and weaknessess, sorry if i am stating the obvious! A great army list i have been trying to produce a sucessful defensive army list for the HE for some time, this is very promissing, good luck!

Thanks a lot guys! Your thoughts were most valuable!
So, i've changed my noble to a bsb with GW and AoC and both DP champions were replaced by SBearers. Because i didnt' have the points, i had to remove 1 eagle, but i guess 1 should do the work;Y
The only thing i couldnt field (due to points limitations) was the banner of elyrion....only 9 pts to spend. I could always replace one spear champion....
A suggestion pick your combats very carefully with the DP's because if they loose and flee now that you have standards they give away a lot of points even more reason to use them in tandem. Also if you were willing take the WL down to 14 models with full command( a 2x7 formation, rather than a 3x6) they wil hit with 8 S6 attacks rather than 7 S6,they are faily resistant to shooting anyway so enough should get into combat. With the extra 60 pts you can get back you eagle and get the banner of ellyrion for you DP's. Also i would'nt lose the champions from any of the spearmen units if you do you have nobody to accept challenges against your mages, a terminal condition for them! One eagle is probably not enough to slow your enemy down. Only a suggestion i don't know whether you would be willing to reduce the WL by this amount. great army list with lots of potential though.
