Hi there I have made my list at an attempt to counter the Vampire Counts as my friend who plays Tomb Kings likes undead armys so has decided to start one. From what i have read the VC have some fairly nasty magic so i am going magic defencive with a semi aggresive line up to counter it. I have never run a dragon before and wanted it in cc so went with a lord/dragon as the drogon mage felt a little weak. I would like to hear from you guys on what your thoughts are. (Please excuse my bad spelling)
Prince = 545
Moon dragon, Armour of calador, sword of might, taisment of protection, gem of hoeth
Mage L2 =175
Dispell scroll x 2
Mage L1 =140
Spearmen x20 FC = 205
Spearmen x20 FC, Lion standard = 230
Dragon Princes x5 Standard, Warbanner = 190
Phoneix Gaurd FC x15 = 255
White Lions x10 = 150
Bolt Thrower = 100
~The Prince is a little risky. You will have a good chance of getting an over-powerful spell, or a bad one. What you could do is give him the Gem of Hoeth, Seerstaff, and Armour of Caledor or the Guardian Phoenix with Hvy Armour, and Shield. He'll get to choose a spell (*cough*sword*of*ruin*cough*) and either get a +2 Save of a +4/+5.
If you run a lord on a dradon the best combo IMO you can get is the star lance and vambraces of defense.
You will hit with S7 meaning that any black couches are dead meat, not to mention any other high armoured stuff (blood knights anyone?) The vambraces combined with dragon armour and shield will give him superb defense.
I would advice on giving the dragon princes the elryon banner. This way they become ultra mobile death.
I would also suggest having the phoenix guard unit a bit bigger. I know their fear won't work against undead but they are not stubborn and a bit more static combat resolution is always usefull.
My last suggestion would be to try and include eagles. They are solid gold and with no normal missle troops from the enemy they can fly free (beware of enemy magic though). Specially since with the vampire units, marching will be more frequent. This way you can march block them and also go necromancer hunting not to mention they can bait any blood knights he will field.
I hope this helps.
"Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and terrifying to know"
definately needs a ward save and some armor, otherwise spells are going to eat him up as well as all those TK bow shots.
Banner of ellyrion is not needed, I would prefer the amulet of light for taking out ethereal beasties on someone.
DP work better 6 wide
White lions are nearly useless in that configuration. either give them 7 wide with champ and musician and gem of courage or don't take them and get some swordmasters (better for chopping up guys and getting the extra combat wounds)
I agree with most of what the others have said as I think you are best taking the Prince on Dragon against the undead with the hitting power of the Starlance and the defence of a good save and also a ward save.
I would also take the Amulet of Light as Buckero0 mentioned as it could prove invaluable against those nasty ethereals. I would either give this to a unit of DP's with the banner of Elyrion, for an ultra manouverable killing unit or my personal favourite, swap out the White lions for a unit of 7 swordmasters, (if you could get 14 even better but not a must), with the Lion standard and the Amulet of Light. I know that most worry about the squishness of SM, and against Tomb kings I would leave them at home, (always hitting on 5+ euuggghhh), but against VC there's nothing to hit them except magic missiles which i'm guessing your opponent wont be foccusing his magic on. You can't fail to get them in to CC and even if your opponent choses to feed them lowly skellies or zombies they will soon chew through them and hopefully overrun in to something worthy of fighting.
Thanks guys for the good advice. I have changed the list a bit so here it goes. what u think?
Prince = 549
Moon Dragon, heavy armour, sheild, star lance, amulet of fire, temakadors gauntlets.
( gives him a 3+ as and when against attacks of strenght 4 or greator a 5+ ward also magic resistance 1 for those nasty spells they may head his way and immune to flamming attacks)
Mage L2 = 175
dispell scroll x2
Mage L1 = 140
Spearmen x 20 FC = 205
Archers x 10 musican = 115
Phoneix Gaurd x 20 FC = 330
Dragon Princes x 6 standard = 230 amulet of light, Banner of ellyrion
White lions x 7 Champ, standard = 154 Lion standard
Eagle x 2 = 100
Pd = 5
Dd = 5
Dispell scroll x 2
I hope that 5 dispell dice will be enough but i will be trying to cast drain magic from both my mages so that should slow him down.
Vambraces, dragon armour and enchanted shield would be a better defensive setup for your prince.
This looks like a well thought out anti VC list. I agree with all the previous comments, your greatest friend in fighting the VC IMHO is at least two mages and drain magic, this reduces their magic more than anything else when you can pull it off. If you let their magic phase run uncontested they are incredibly difficult to beat. I am not sure of the wisdom of taking WL or SM against the VC, see the thread experience versus VC in the HE section, it looks like from my tournament experience and buckeroO's reading of a GW article that since both VC and HE have or can have asf our GW armed elite infantry will be striking last in future. Other than this last caveat I think this list should perform well, have fun and good luck.

That does make a better defencive setup swntzu but you dont have the points left for the star lance or any magic weapon of any sort.
Just realiszed dragon princes need a champ to carry amulet so i will drop the standard and banner and add 1 white lion.
