After going 10-1 with my Themed Caledor army - I want to try something a little more balanced. Seeing I have most of these troops I though I would put this together.
I like Themed Armies and I came up with this - with apologies to Ginger, Demandred, Buckeroo's and Spector for using their ideas. But need a few ideas more to polish it off.
The Flame Eternal
1 Prince - "Asur - Rhuin - Warrior-Priest of Asuryan" -Barded, Dragon Armour,Ench. Shield, Lance, Gem of Hoeth, Seerstaff - 269 (Fire Magic) - will choose Sword of Rhuin.
1 LvL 2 Mage - "Elthrai-Elui - Priest of Fate" - Jewel of Dusk - 150 (Death Magic)
1 Lvl 2 Mage - "Lacoi-Harothi - Priest of Light" - Ring of Fury - 175 (Light Magic)
17 Spears - (FC) - "Sentinels of Light" - 178 - Mage Here
17 Spears - (FC) - "Sentinels of Fate" - 178 - Mage Here
18 Phoenix Guard (FC) w Banner or Sorcery - "Eternal Guard" - 350
5 Dragon Princes (FC) " Flames of Asuryan" - 200
5 Dragon Princes (Mus/Std) - "Wrath of Asuryan" - 180 - Prince here
2 RBT's - "Asuryan's Gaze" -
2 Great Eagles - " Heavenly Host" -
Total = 1980
PD - 9-11 plus Ring of Fury
DD - 6
Questions - add Silver wand to who? Leaning toward Death as we are at war.
- can anyone can figure out how to get to 20 spears?
- or any other ideas??
Thanks in advance.
Please do not post individual points costs of units that have no upgrades - GN out

If you want Silver Wand, it has to go on your mage with the Ring of Fury... can't go with Jewel of the Dusk because you can't have 2 arcane items on a character. As for which lore goes with which item that's debateable. I actually wouldn't use either as my default lore. While we're on the subject of magic, an interesting rules question arises with regard to Flaming Sword. Not entirely sure how this would work, but since usually you get stuck with whatever weapon you charge with for the duration of combat, I'm not sure you'd get to use Flaming Sword if your attempt to cast the spell is dispelled the turn you charge and you (correctly) use your lance, but you successfully cast Flaming Sword before a 2nd round of combat occurs. Since Flaming Sword gives you a magic weapon, and you are required to use a magic weapon if given a choice between a mundane weapon or a magical one, I would say that you're obliged to use the Flaming Sword rather than your lance in the 2nd round. However, I could definitely see an argument that you're stuck with the lance for the duration, and your Flaming Sword would sit there useless.
The list looks fairly solid. If it were me, I'd go ahead and add Silver Wand, drop the Champion from your other Dragon Prince unit, and add a 6th man to that unit. 6-wide is max frontage against any ranked unit, and you should be able to fit 6 against almost anyone else.
If you want to bump those Spear units that much, just drop the champion from the Dragon Princes, hold off on Silver Wand, drop the champions in the spear units (they honestly aren't that good, and you should be sending your mages to the back rather than accepting a challenge with the Spearmen champ), and buy your 6 Spearmen to fill out, you end up 6 points under.
*Picks up royalwulff and shakes him/her* How dare you steal my thoughts.... get out of my head!!!!
Right, now to this list....
It looks fairly solid. The biggest concern for me is actually the lack of protection on your lord. His armour save is all he has, and it won't last in a challange, even if he strikes first. I do have a couple of cunning plans to help with this one.
1) Change the standard bearer on the dragon princes with the Lord to a champion. He can then accept challenges for the lord, allowing his stronger attacks to smash the rank and file for combat resolution.
2) Drop the standard on the other unit of dragon princes, and get 1 more of them. Small units of cavalry do not do well with banners in my experience.
3) Put the silver wand on the ring of fury mage.
That should be even now.
As far as the magical weapon over lance question goes, I would assume that the flaming sword of rhuin would instantly take over from the lance in combat. That is the way I have played it and I have never been stopped, nor have I stopped others.
Hope this helps.
Thanks again for the excellent advice guys - much appreciated.
I will try both options and see what works for me. I like the Theme but I agree effectiveness would be compromised by sticking to the Theme and by picking Items/Lores ahead of time. I think I would play my "Chosen" lores in Friendly and maybe in more serious games pick the suitable items/lore as needed.
Buckeroo - you hit it right on the head regarding my PG's - thats my worry too. I would like a Noble with at least the War Banner (Battle Banner would be even better) but cant figure out where to make the cut. One unit of DP's, Eagle and RBT? Besides I have a well painted BSB who would fit in nicely. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Well you could try the following see if it helps you......
1) Drop the prince entirely and obtain the following:
a) Noble: 143pts
Armour of Caledor
b) Noble: 146pts
Dragon Armour, Shield and Great Weapon
Radient Gem of Hoeth
(Take lore of beasts for the bears anger)
2) Drop one spearman and one phoenix guard to give these 2 characters somewhere to slot into.
3) With the spare 24 points (including the original not spent), drop both standards off of the 2 dragon prince units, and make them 6 strong each, one with just musician, one with musician and champion.
I hope this helps
That would do it - but it does get away from the theme - and you know how I like to stick to themes. By the way the Caledor Army we put together is doing nicely.
