Hi there trying to make the sickest magic list possable heres what i came up with. Any suggestions to make it sicker?
Dragon mage L2, ring of fury, sliver wand
mage L2, dispell scroll, ring of corin
Archers x 10 mus
Archers x 10 mus
phoenix guard x 16 Full com, banner of socercery, skinsilver
bolt thrower x 2
An interesting exercise, drop the other two RBT and get two more canons the get two more PG to take them up to 18. 3 canons and 3 mages including Teclis is very unfriendly. Sounds like your having fun already. Good luck you will need it because nobody is likely to play against this list once let alone twice!
~Forgive me if I'm stupid, but why is it that some of the lists recently have been including cannons? Have the elves of Ulthuan found gunpowder more interesting of late? Or is this just from DoW?
Cannons are gaining in popularity where DoW units are allowed, mostly because they are probably twice as good as RBTs for the cavalry based armies, which have become more popular in their own right because of the new Dragon Princes. To be honest, RBTs are overcosted, regardless of your opinion on the use of cannons, and I've stopped using them in games under 3k. HE's have better options in their special slots they should be spending those points on, and Eagles are better than RBTs in a number of lists.
All that being said, three cannons might be a bit excessive for this list. Keep in mind that without a hill, you might face deployment issues if you want to be able to protect all three from being ambushed by fast cavalry or scouts, and still maintain clear firing lanes.
Consider the following changes:
-2 RBT, -1 Dragon Mage (you don't want him running around on his own unsupported, which is what he'd be doing in this list), -1 Archers Musician upgrade = 640 + 5 points leftover = 645 available
+1 Cannon, +1 Great Eagle, +1 Lv 2 Mage with Seerstaff and Powerstone, +1 Noble BSB with Armor of Caledor, Guardian Phoenix, Great Weapon, +3 Phoenix Guard, +7 Shadow Warriors = 645
Run Teclis with the BSB in the Phoenix Guard unit, makes them US 21, BSB can act as a bit of a bodyguard for Teclis and give you a re-roll for that LD10. Run each Lv 2 with an Archer unit. 2 Cannons will provide some solid range to accompany your archers, your pair of Eagles can work with the scouting Shadow Warriors to march block or pick on enemy artilery.
Hope some of this is helpful...
I don't think cannons are that good but they are definitely useful mostly for the S7 damage they do to a chariot. A RBT is better in a lot of scenarios, Fast cav, scouts, warmachine hunters etc.
That aside this is a lot of magic, I agree with Ga1661 about the shadow warriors, they excel at taking out warmachines and even other shooting units if they can get a flank.
I am torn on the Dragon mage but think that the inclusion of a BSB would be of great benefit to you, other than that, I hope you don't miscast too often.
Thanks for those suggestions guys. just playing around with the high elf book and seeing what i can come up with. I have grown fond of the DOW cannon just the nasty surprise no one expects. i have got a funny feeling that if i did play this list no one will ever play me again lol.
