Ok i wasnt sure wether to post this in the army list section or just the regular section so i went with here anyway i am starting up a fantasy army and i havent got anything yet but this weekend i am going to buy the high elves rule book and also a plastic set of the mage or the prince then the following weeks i am going to buy the battle force and eventually the acctual rule book my question is ( since i dont have the army book yet ) which plastic kit should i buy the mage or the prince and which one would fit better into a small game i dont know what points limit we will be playing (but my friend had lizard men and my other friend has wood elves and we are going to have small games they have about the battle force and a leader as well ) yeah so my question is mage or prince and how many ponts would the battle force be around
Thanks in advance
Skulls For The Skull Throne !
I would say the mage, you can use the champion model for the silver helms to represent a noble for your early games. With the mage and the battleforce your on your way to 1000 points.
The Battleforce is a great starter as well, though many here will tell you to ditch the Silver Helms early on, and swap them out for Dragon princes (probably sound advice, though I like my SH )
I'd think a nice army, using your models would be:
Noble on Barded Steed with lance, heavy armour and enchanted shield
Mage on barded steed
Mage on foot
7 Silver Helms with Standard, musician and champion (make an alternate champion using some of the spare parts left over from other kits)
+ the core units from teh box - Archers and Spear Elves, though what I would do is create a mixed unit, mising the parts for Archers and Spear Elves, and pretend that they are all Sea Guards (which I like in smaller games due to their versatility)
Finally you have the best war machine in the game, the Repeater Bolt Thrower, backed up with a BS of 4.
Well, enough from me, let wiser heads tend to your requests for knowledge, and may the glory of Asuryan shine upon your armies...
I agree, definitely the Mage.
I wouldn't buy the battleforce, as I can't see much point fielding archers and silver helms. Spearelves and Bolt Throwers are good, but the rest... well, get Dragon Princes and Sword Masters instead and your army will rock.
ok ive gone ahead and bought the archmage and mage set and the rule book i was peiceing together my mages and i have no idea what to give them can i get any help also could somebody give me a hand with my army list as i do not know much about them yet as i have not had any time to sit down and read the rule book yet
Skulls For The Skull Throne !
Best thing to do is read the rulebook. generally with mages, the model doesn't have to be "as WYSIWYG" as most models. Mages have all sorts of magical trinkets accoutrements etc, a staff could quite easily be replaced by a sword or a belt or a helm etc.
Builf the models how you feel they look good (less is definitely mroe). And did I mention? Read the rulebook :-)
