Got a tournament coming up, I've already decided that because of the minimum 500 points of core you have to take that I am not playing my Tomb Kings lol. So I am coming up with a list for elves, and it seems like it can be a little stronger, though I am still not happy with it.
145 - level 2 mage, silver wand, dispell scroll
Archers X 11
Archers X 12, Musician
Spearmen X 24, full command
Core total = 500
204 - SM's PG's or WL's X 12, Full command, Lion Standard
Total = 1000
With 500 core the most of the specials I can muster is a unit of 12 unfortunatley. I think in a game with heavy amounts of core the Bolt Thrower firing volley shots will be very effective, so I would like to keep it in the list.
What would you guys suggest for my special choice, I was thinking White Lions because they are the more balanced unit, I got a feeling that SM's are gonna get picked out incredbily fast and be dead by turn 2. One benefit to Phoenix Guard is that I can make the unit larger because they wouldn't require the Lion Standard.
Any advice is welcome, lemme know
Less archers - more Spear Elves = bigger model count. Dropping the archers will give you a unit of 28 spears, which can be split into two units of 14 if you want, with a musician in each.
I would factor which armies you are likely to be facing - rememebr that Empire can take cavalry as core, as do Bretonnians, and so you need bonafide cavalry killers. On the other hand Dwarves are likely to fill their core with misssile troops. The repeater outranges missile troops, and can skewer cavalry, so is a nice choice.
Gievn you need to spend a significant period of time pinging armour off enemy cavalry, a march blocker is a useful device, and for this you need shadow warriors, reavers or eagles, eagles being the cheapest.
well generally in the tournaments these days, especially in my area Daemons will be well represented, vamps as well. I like the idea of march blocking, i've been thinking of that too, but is it worth dropping more SMs? That's not a big unit as it is, and im worried that one round of shooting will take out a good portion of them. The only other thing I could do to make the points is to drop the bolt thrower, which is not a great idea. I fully plan to take lore of metal if i run up against high armour army.
