hey guys im fighting orcs and goblins and im pretty new to high elves so I might need a good bit of help here. I was going for more of a defensive build with lots of shooting involved. I want to know if this list is any good and if not could help a scrub out a little?
talisman of loec
2x 10 archers
5 shadow warriors
4 bolt throwers
2x 15 swordmasters
banner of sorcery
it should come down to exactly 2k. I was gonna use the bsb with the spearmen to hold the center and the 2 swordmaster units for flanking whenever they get closer. the archer units are there to shoot up his fast cav and the shadow warriors were going to march block a good portion of his army to allow me another turn of shooting hopefully. My plan with the archmage was going with high magic and hopefully cast curse of arrow attraction, shield or courage (should get at least 1-2 of those) and cast with 4-5 dice with a good chance of irresistable force and with the remaining 4 or so dice cast drain magic again with irresistable. Hoping the extra 3 to cast with 4 dispel dice and the +1 to dispel will be enough.

im rather new myself but have learned alot through trial and error, i have found that one mage is never enough,i like 3 and a seerstaff , are magic is to good to not exploit it, especially flames of phoenix then drain magic, it works best on horde armys, like orcs, they burn and cant stop it.
well you cant have the talisman or magic sword on the noble because if he has a banner so he cant use other magic items, i hate that rule. also i think the bsb works much better in a block of phoenix guard.
sword masters work much better in smaller units of 6 or 7, when ever i take a block they either get shot to death or if they reach combat they dont really get hit cause all those huge strike first hits take out the front row, plus 4 units of 6 gives you more area to cover and better flanking atvantages, i know i cant spell, banner of sorcery is alot safer in phoenix guards too
by the way phoenix guards are brilliant, they just dont die, the most i have lost in one hit is three, its usually 0-1, i hate dieing and losing mages+sweet banners like banner of sorcery, so great place for them, or bsb beccause the less wounds the opponent gets the more they lose by, and the point of bsb is to chase large units for a major kill in one turn. its good to treat all other units as throw away but protect your self in phoenix guards, just my opinion and experiences, some will def argue white lions are better
love the four bolt throwers, its just rude to point those at someone, but to march block you may wanna think about maybe an eagle or two and another unit of shadow warriors, there are lots of orcs to slow down.
hope this ranting of mine helps some what
no the bsb have to pick between magic items or a magic banner with no limate. i agree about the the mages thou, if you want to go magic at 2k you need more then one, also the SM untis are a good size for a horde army, you need some static combat rev. to lower the numarical advatage of the orcs. The last thing you want to do is have a combat is have the orcs up by like 5 before blows are even struck. As dethunt mentioned fielding Sm in MSU sized uses does work (i perosnaly hate it), but you have to remember it only takes a loss of one or two models to siverly reduce thier effectiness. If you want to hold the center of your line, PG or LW will work better then SM and if you want to mach block, you need more then one unit to do it
I would replace a block of sm with either wl or pg replace the nobel with another mage with the seer staff and scroll get rid of book of hoeth add ring of fury silver wand and 2 scrolls. get your sm 7 wide with an extra rank.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
