I thought it was about time I posted another list, and as I have a set of 3 games coming up this weekend against Dark Elves, Beasts and Warriors of Chaos, I think this timing works out perfectly.
Lords and Heroes:
Archmage Lvl 4: 360pts (High Magic)
Book of Hoeth
Mage Lvl 2: 185pts (Fire or Metal Magic)
Ring of Fury, Silver Wand
Mage Lvl 1: 140pts (High Magic)
Noble BSB: 143pts
Armour of Caledor
10 Archers (Crystal Mage here)
17 Spearmen: 178pts (Wand Mage here)
16 Phoenix Guard: 320pts (BSB and Archmage here)
Banner of Sorcery
12 Swordmasters: 186pts
6 White Lions:
6 Dragon Princes: 235pts
Champion and Musician
2 Great Eagles
PD: 9 + D3 + 1 Bound
DD: 7 (inc one stolen one)
The main idea is to rule the magic phase, pumping one killer spell through the archmage hopefully followed up with a fire spell from the fire mage, and a shield of saphery from the lvl 1 guy, before using any remaining dice to push drain magic if they have a good magic phase, or one more spell and then the bound if not.
The centre will be held by the spears and Phoenix Guard, while the swordmasters, white lions and dragon princes protect the flank. The eagles will be used as lures, or war machine hunters, while my shooting will focus on flank weakening, or just whittling down support troops.
The only thing I was wondering would be if it would be worth dropping the annulyian crystal and the musician from the swordmasters in exchange for the tricksters pendant and a dispel scroll. The reason I am wondering this is that I expect there to be a lot of magic from the Dark elves and chaos armies, although the beasts shouldn't be.
All help and advice is gratefully received

I have found that Tricksters Pendant works well against Dark Elves particularly when you use it with Drain Magic. I have really struggled to contain Dark Elves Magic recently I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I think that Annulian Crystal might so a good job of that as it makes the phase much easier to predict with only 1 pool dice. Against Dark ELves I have found Drain Magic once to almost be a liability, theycan use as many dice as they like and my friend frequently rolls high (9, 10 or 11) for Power of Darkness. The only thing I was wondering would be if it would be worth dropping the annulyian crystal and the musician from the swordmasters in exchange for the tricksters pendant and a dispel scroll. I don't know much about Chaos Mortals but Annulian Crystal + Drain Magic should control them reasonably well.
I would stick with what you have, too often tricksters pendant is wasted, it doesn't deter players from casting with a lot of dice, and you can't be confident of a miscast.
I would be of a different mind (thankfully, since we live in different locales) I would have a hard time justifying the presence of the level 1. Either make him a level 2 so he can contribute, or drop him altogether or make a simple noble with great weapon a level 1 with radiant gem of hoeth and run him as a dragon prince champion with dragon armor, shield barded horse and lance. Unless you are really good at rolling doubles (I don't think statistically with high magic you would) then the book of hoeth is wasted. You could arm your archmage with the annulian crystal, a scroll and a power stone and be better off in my opinion. You could then afford a magic resistance trinket or banner with the cost you saved on the level 1 and dropping the book of hoeth. I totally agree that there are some nasty magic armies out there, but high elves is usually not one of them. They have some great spells, but rarely anything that's going to break the game open for you. Ring of Hotek could make your book of hoeth fairly destructive to your own army anyway.
I also think the swordmasters would benefit from a champion over the musician.
You should have little problem with beasts, but chaos and dark elves can work us over when things go their way. Watch out especially for the No.1 Nurgle spell.

Why does he always write almost exact the same list as I do...
Great list mate, though I'd give the second mage another lvl and give the warbanner to the spearmen, but where to get the points...
Good luck anyway!
