ok i'm new to High Elves, but i'd like to start an army of them. I've played against them quite a few times, my HE opponent takes alot of chariots and dragons, so i was after something different. I want to try out an infantry based High Elf army, i prefer this sort of army (i'm an orc player as well). At first i didn't intend to take so many multiple units, but that's how it's turned out.
LORD - Prince, GW, Armour Caledor, Vambraces Defence, Talisman Loec- 252
HERO - Mage (lvl 2) , ring fury - 175
HERO - Mage (lvl 2) , dispel scroll x 2 - 175
HERO - Mage (lvl 2) , Jewel Dusk, Staff of Solidity - 170
CORE - 10 archers - XXX
CORE - 10 archers - XXX
SPEC - 12 Swordmasters (6 wide) , full cmd - War Banner - 230
SPEC - 12 Swordmasters (6 wide) , full cmd - Gem Courage - 220
SPEC - 12 Swordmasters (6 wide) , full cmd - 210
SPEC - 12 Swordmasters (6 wide) , std, mus - 198
x4 RARE - 4 Repeating Bolt Throwers - XXX
total = 2,250
Do you think this stands a chance? I can see it's going to suffer against armies with lots of missile weapons, but i was thinking of taking out those enemy units first (44 shots) with a possible help from curse arrow attraction spell.
So far i've got one High Elf Mage figure, and a High Elf Noble/Prince. I'm at the "planning before i buy" stage.
I've never actually used a High Elf army before, so any guidance is appreciated
In future, please do not post points costs of individual models, or units without upgrades - GN out

Looks solid, but you might want to change 1 bolt thrower to an eagle, because those bolt throwers wont be able to shoot many things after turn 2. Your swordmasters will be in close combat too fast.
This isn't a bad elite list. Very Saphery in it's construction, although I do have a couple of concerns as a High Elf player.
1) That number of swordmasters is quite scary, but if an enemy has some decent shooting of their own, your number will dwindle quite fast. However, there is a very nice solution to this.
2) 4 Bolt throwers seems a little excessive, but again, I can see why you did it. I would drop 2 of these for a couple of great eagles. These guys are great for war machine hunting, eliminating your enemies shooting capability.
3) If you were to drop the champion off of another unit of Swordmasters, you could get a 3rd unit of archers with the spare points. I would then place these 3 units in a line, infront of your swordmasters. They would then reform before the charge, and allow the swordmaster units to jump out and smash the enemy
Just my thoughts
New LOChat functions now avaliable.
Need a list designed for any Fantasy army: Click Here
Instead of 1 ballist and 1 unit SM you could take a unit of LSG or Spearmen and a great eagle.
But it's a nice list :-)
Otherwise, eh, I'd round out the list more. SMs are very nice (my favorite special) but they need support or they will fall. They might win some combats, but a good anvil will have some hero/champ attacks coming back, and SMs drop like flies. Look at some of the other lists on here to see some balancing ideas.
Changed my list around a bit. I got some free shadow warriors and an eagle, so thought i'd include them. I've tried to include a few more models, still sticking to 2,250 points. Increased the swordmasters to 13, so you have to take out more for a panic test. I'll try them 7 wide to start with
Noble- BSB, hvy arm,sh, Battle Banner
Mage (lvl2) dispel scroll
Mage (lvl2) dispel scroll
20 Spearmen, full cmd
6 Dragon Princes, mus, std
5 Shadow Warriors
13 Swordmasters, full cmd, Banner Sorcery
13 Swordmasters, full cmd, War Banner
13 Swordmasters, full cmd
3 Repeating Bolt Throwers
Power = 6, plus 1d3
Dispel = 4
Deploy = 10
This list is an improvement over your first list.
Your spearman as a anvil unit still needs something. I would give them the banner of lion courage, immune to fear and terror. There are numerous fear causing units out there.
I like giving one on my swordmaster units the amulet of light to take care of units which require magic to deal with.
I love swordmasters but I also love the lion chariot. That should take some shooting away from the swordmasters.
Generally I think this list will do alright against any list that is not real magic or shooting heavy.
Yeah agreed, Lion Banner in the spears should round them out with the BSB. Drop the 3rd unit of SMs for a Lion Chariot, use the remaining points to beef up the other SMs.
At 2250, (I know this isn't Herohammer anymore, but still) you should have a lord. Your opponent will, and you need to take the same advantage. Lords from any list just have options that no other unit in the list has. Ridiculous magic output. Amazing combat. Ld10. Magic item combos that mess things up bad. I'd try freeing up room to upgrade one of those lvl 2s to a lvl 4 mebbe.
