I just started playing Warhammer Fantasy. I picked HE because I played Eldar in 40k and was hoping that they play somewhat similar.
I bought the the Battle Force and this is what I have so far
- 16 Spearmen w/ champion, musician, and std. flag bearer.
- 10 archers (should i run full 16?)
- 8 Silver Helms
1. Which Hero should I acquire
2. Which other infantry should I add

Heya, welcome, you've picked the right sort of elves!
Have a quick read of the posting rules, some of those point costs shouldn't be on their or GW will be angry.
In terms of the army, have you built it yet? For the 6 spare archers, paint and model 5 as shadow warriors, keep a fairly sensible legs and body and buy the plastic noble on foot and noble on horse, and convert the archer body to a mage. Should be a book-tome thing in there, and I'm sure some eldar bits'll look cool.
Then in terms of heros, for small point games its all about shooting, so a noble with reaverbow, great weapon, and dragon armour is a good allrounder, and helps the spears win combat. For the mounted noble, i'd say make him a BSB, which will be useful when your army expands.
Units themselves seem fine, i like giving the spearmen a warbanner to help their combat resolution. As for the silver helms, use them and paint them as dragon princes, everyone does, then give them the banner of ellryion.
For expansion, depends what you're after, I've gone with Dragon Princes, a Tiranoc Chariot and RBTs. But others swear by elite infantry and eagles. Depends which models you fancy, if used properly everything is effective!
Welcome to Warhammer!
My first question is: have you got the Army Book?
If not, that's the first thing you want, just like you need your codex's in 40k.
This is my 1000 point force, its simplified a bit but I must say, it's not very beginner friendly and most of the units in this list won't be in your Battalion Box. Now, if you want to use this list I would say use your Silver Helms as Dragon Princes and your Archers as Shadow Warriors. For tactics it is this: Deploy your Spear-Elves and Sword Masters so they can works together, and it'll give your Sword Masters some protection from missile fire if you keep them behind your Spear Elves. Charge the Spear Elves into the front of an opposing unit and, if possible, get the Sword Masters in to the Rear or Flank of the opponent. The Noble will give you an extra bit of punch in close combat too. Deploy the shadow warriors behind enemy lines but on opposite sides of the table, one unit on the left and one on the right. This means you can capture table quarters easily. The shadow warriors main purpose is to silence enemy War Machines and, if there are no War Machines to silence, they can add a extra bit of fire power to your force. Use the Repeater Bolt Thrower to give some fire support to your marching Spear-Elves and Sword Masters. The Dragon Princes should be used to go into combat with any enemy Cavalry or troops that use Flaming Attacks, see as though they igronre wounds from Flaming Attacks, with their high armour saves and plentiful attacks they can take down any small unit from infantry to cavalry. Ok, Here Goes:
