Bringing my forces up to 2k, i've wanted to try another angle. I wanted to build an army around Teclis and magical dominance basically. I was thinking along the lines of a some solid defensive units to keep things busy. A bunch of archers and RBT's to do the damage alongside Teclis. Thing is, i'm not sure if my desired tactic fits with High Elves in general or my 2k point cap.
All I have confirmed for the list at the moment is
Second level 2 mage (probably with staff of saphery to support teclis' lore choice easier)
2 squads of 10 archers
Which puts me just over half way at 1160pts.
Now if i just dedicate the rest of my points to a solid defensive line (PG's and Spearmen) will the current units be killy enough? Also, what are your opinions on how viable this type of strategy is?
I dont use Teclis much but when I am using a magic heavy list i go for these kind of lines.
Id get a unit of 15 Phoenix Guard with full command, banner of sorcery and armour of caledor on the keeper.
Then I'd get some kind of combat character (consider Caradryan and put him in SM or PG)
Then get as many swordmasters as you can to slash the enemy up.
Personally I also squeeze in a lion chariot but thats because I run an archmage instead of Teclis.
You will have room for a dispel scroll on your L2 mage as well - its always good to have 2.
When playing teclis, I generally don't use another mage as Teclis aims to be irresistable so the other mage has their entire dispel attention.
My list for 2k with Teclis is something like this:
Noble - Reaverbow, GrW, DA - 139
23 Spears FC War Banner 252
5 Shadow Warriors
Then either Battlebanner BSB with 6 DPS with the Banner of Sorcery, or 2 units of 6 DPs one with BoS the other with Banner of Ellryion.
Aim is Teclis with 6+ 2D3 dice gets 2/3 irresistable spells per turn. Him and the Reaverbow noble sit in the spears, high static combat res plus the noble to do the killing / challenges. Archers and RBT (and reaver bow) to do much shooting. Eagle and Shadow warriors to march block / hit warmachine crews. Chariot and DPs sit back and wait, charge when the enemy are weakened by magic and shooting, preferably in the flank.
Thats my take on it, but i dont have any elite infantry! Swapping chariot and the odd Dp for 7/8 WL / SM is a possibility though i like the 18" charge range to cover a big area and keep fast cav worried.
