Have 2 options was hoping to get some thoughts on them.
Noble, H.armour, shield, Sword of Might - 106
Mage, Silver Wand, Talisman of Protection - 120
10 Archers, Full command - 135
11 Spearmen, Standard, Musician, War Banner - 134
Mage, Silver Wand, Jewelof Dusk, Talisman of Protection, Gem of Courage - 145
13 Archers, Full Command - 168
16 Spearmen, Full Command, War Banner - 189
Any thoughts, I wanted to build up round a core of basic troops then expand into specials later.
first of all, in the second option, the mage is illegal, for it cannot have 2 arcane items (exept scrolls). so lose the jewel of the dusk. This will give you maximum casting with 2 spells cast with 2 dice. (a lv 1 mage has a maximum of 2 dice per cast).
it looks like a fun list, but i would try to squeeze a extra unit in there to get some more manouvrability. drop the archers to 10 without command, and add a further 4 spearmen to make 2 units of 10.
this will give you a archer unit in the middle with 2 CC units on the flanks.
you could also to go with the multiple small unit tactic. this goes best with specials, so you could add 2 small units of 5 SM, WL, or PG to your army. but assuming you are using the battallion set this wont be an option.. yet...
Thanks for the advice.
I have now changed the 2nd Option to:
Mage, Silver Wand, Talisman of protection - 120
10 Archer - 110
12 Spearmen, Full Command, War Banner - 153
10 Spearmen, Full command - 115 or
5 SM , full command, Gem of courage - 115
I still like option 1 as well any further thoughts, I am only just starting out so have so far only bought the archers and the mage!!!
i like this remake of your list a lot better, giving you more manouvrability
the archers and the Mage you bought will be usefull anyway so that shouldn't be a worry.
here's a 500 pt list i have used a couple of times..
Reaver Bow 125 PTS
White Lions 5x
Repeater Bolt Thrower
an other option is:
Lv. 2, Jewel of the Dusk 150 PTS
Sentinel 100 PTS
Lothern Sea Guard 10x
Shields, Sea Master 140 PTS
i have played with both army's once, and liked the latter one the most, just to experiment with the different core choices
Thanks for the help I really like the look of your 1st srmy actually.
I tried the 2nd option out against a empire army yesterday and the swordmaster were awesome. The gem of courage was useless though so I have now swapped it for a bitting blade for the bladelord which should hopefully help get rid of those armies with knights or similiar.
Mage was a bit disapointing as he had a battle wizard and warrior priest pretty much nulyfying my magic!
any further advice on how to maybe change this 500 pt army would be appreciated as it will props be this sixe for sometime now
Fairly sure these are the current rules for border patrol if so then most of your lists are illegal you may want to confirm this though as this is what we are currently playing.
You must have one hero to lead the force, but the hero may not be an Army Battle Standard Bearer.
The army must consist of at least two units and no more than four units (excluding the hero).
You must have at least one Core choice.
You may take one choice of either a Special or Rare unit, but not both.
You must include one infantry unit of 10+ models
No unit may be larger than 25 models
No unit may carry a magical standard.
No single model may cost more than 125pts.
noble, sword of might, sheild, dragon armour, braded steed = 124
spearmen x 13 std (noble goes here)
total = 501
should be able to get away with this or try
mage, jewel of dusk, silver wand
spearmen x15 std mus
sliverhelms x 5 ( dont underestimate these guys at low levels bout the only time i use them)
Jkeg - No i'm not playing border patrol just a low points pitched battle so all normal army restirictions apply. I think the mage is illegal in the 2nd choice because I have been told you cannot have more than 1 Arcane item unless they are scrolls. Correct me if I am wrong on this as that is the original combination I had and may return to it if it is legal.
It has also been suggested to me that i drop the mage completley and have a noble with RGOH instead if I drop the spearmen champion then I will be able to do this and not change the content of my army.
swt as man sorry did read it correctly my bad. you are right about the mage being illiegal
mage ring of fury
bounds at low levels are dam nasty and ours is one of the best out there
Thanks guys for all your help. I have finally decided to drop the mage an take a noble. My final selection for a 500pt starter army is now:
Noble, Great wep, H.Armour, Enchanted Shield - 107pt
10 Archers - 110
11 Spearmen, Full command, War banner (led by noble) - 144
5 White Lions, Full Command, Gem of courage, Banner of Arcane Protection - 140
The basic idea for this 'army' is:
The noble will have a 3+ save against shooting and depending on who is fighting can turtle up to get a 2+ save with 3 S4 attacks or use his great wep to cause 3 S6 attacks. sticking him in with 11 spearmen will mean when they get charged I will be able to protect him and throw out 12 S3 attacks with his!
the archers will whittle down low T low AS troops to help my units win CR or target any war machines/skirmishers/independant characters.
The white Lions will be able to withstand quite a lot of punishment for such a small unit 2+ save against shooting and a Magic resitance 2 should help get them all into combat and leave me 2 DD to protect the other units from magic, when in combat 6 S6 attacks should help see off any knights and if they do loose they are stubborn with the Gem of Courage which should help them stay in the fight until help arrives.
That's basically it, if anyone has any further thought please let me know.
