I posted a request for this in the GingerNinja thread, but I thought I would take a crack at this myself anyhow. I need to get this list at least built from sprues by Monday or Tuesday. Gonna be a busy weekend!
Anyhow, here is what I have to choose from:
Lord/Mage on Dragon
2 x Chariots Box (one built already as a Lion Chariot)
2 x Dragon Princes Box
Here is what I was thinking:
L2, Silver Wand, Guardian Phoenix
L2, Barded Steed, Annulian Crystal
16 x LSG
6 Dragon Princes
Full Command, Banner of Sorcery
So, decent magic punch, light shooting and a couple of fast hammer units. What changes would you make given the limited models?
Well, I'd try to get more out of the Chariot sprue and get two more foot soliders. If you manage to do this, you will have a nice unit of 18 Spearmen with the warbanner, which I find to an excellent unit.
With the models available I don't think this list looks shabby at all!
EDIT: WOHOO! 500th POST!

Grats on 500!
I was just redoing my points total, and at 1250 I do have FC and the WarBanner on the LSG. The mounted mage will be with them, so they do rank up at 6x3 as well!
Considering the limits of the model selection, I am impressed with what you have come up with. I have designed a list for you at 1500pts in the list thread that you requested, using the same limitations. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with that.
As for this list, it is good, but I always worry about the fact that your dragon mage has the guardian phoenix on it. I always go for lvl 2 with silver wand and ring of fury, for maximum attacking output.
Just my thoughts

I partly agree with the ninja. Though It's very reassuring to have a ward save on him, it's "only" a 5+, and the question is: Will it actually save him from all the shooting that's going to directed at him, or will the points be better off somewhere else?
5000p. High Elves
I go back and forth on Ring vs Phoenix so much. I know that it is only a 5+ but outside that you get nothing. Zero. Zip. No armour, no ward, no regen, nothing. For a 400+ pt model that just sucks. If there was any sort of save for being mounted on the dragon I wouldn't worry but I do.
Having said that, is anything else going to draw dispel dice and scrolls like the Ring of Fury? I can't see anything more frightening in their bound spells with the possible exception of the Ring of Corin. If my goal is to wipe people off the table with magic, the Ring of Fury is too good to pass up, but I can't get the thought of losing the mage to one round of arrow fire out of my head.
I'll playtest both I suppose!
unfortunately we do not have any good choices to protect our dragon mage. In fact that is about the best we can do. It is all about deployment and moving and hiding. Luckly I started with a dragon mage vice the lord/star dragon combo and learned to play peek a boo. Of course at the time I was using Teclis also which was great magical protection for the DM. The dragon mage is fun to play with but must be handled carefully. But the silver wand is a must for a DM because of the extra free power die he gets.

Yup, I figure that's my best bet. Keep him away from skirmishers with ranged weapons, and keep him out of the firing arc of anything else.
On the plus side, if he has to fight he should almost always get the charge when needed and an ASF Sword of Rhuin + Dragon combo should mean very very few attacks coming back at him.
What about deploying an eagle around the DM and have it tie up anything within range of the mage? I haven't tried this strategy but has anyone else?
Yes, tie up a unit for one turn and give the opponent free points, that is. Maybe if you tried Dragon Princes, but then again, the real threats are Cannons and artillery which you won't be able to tie up very effectively.
Ohh, and reading through my post I really sound rather rude towards Export, and this is not my intention.
