Welcome to Librarium Online!
hiya, I'm going to a bring and battle tomorrow, and I designed a 1000 pts magic heavy list.
Lv.2, Seerstaff (High Magic, CoAA, FotF) 165 PTS
Lv.2, Jewel of the Dusk (lore of Fire) 150 PTS
White Lions 12x
Phoenix guard 14x
Keeper of the Flame, Standard bearer, Banner of sorcery.284 PTS
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Total: 1000 PTS
(for the strange layout: i copied from word)
but i'm thinking to split up my WL, so i get 2 units of 6, or i want to take my boltthrower out ( i dont have unit's to protect it) and put an extra mage in there to totally dominate the magic phase. what do you think??
BTW this is an experimental list, i dont have to win tournaments, i just want to make fun (winning AND fun is better though (A))
no i didn't put any scrolls in there, cause i wil mostly play against WE, D, and brets, and the most magic i would face would be from the WE.
i could take 2 WL out and an archer to give both mage's a scroll.. i think that will be my second list.. against WE
I had thought the same. Otherwise, you could take out a Lion, an Archer and the Jewel of Dusk to put in the Annulian Crystal. Only an idea, I even think it could be less effective actually...not sure.
as long as WE are the only magic users i will face, i only have to dispel some crucial tree singing.. so as long as i'm not facing aggressive magic, i think i'll do fine without scrolls
but what do you think about splitting up my WL? i want my mages in my PG and my Archers, so the WL will be able to mow down some units.. but as a whole, or in 2 parts?
I would not split them, to tell the truth, especially against your Dwarf and your Wood Elf buddies. With 6, ranged attacks only need 2 kills to make them panic - an objective these two armies can easily reach. Moreover, I think that having them in the same unit would make your CR a bit better. Let's say you face 10 Dryads: you attack first with 6 attacks which hit on 3+, so let's say you score 4 hits. Wounding on 2+ will almost always mean that you score the max number of wounds, let's say 4 in this case. The Dryads try to save with their ward, saving 1,33 on average, so let's assume 1 saved. that makes 3 dead. The Dryads fight back with 4 attacks, hitting on 4+ and scoring 2 hits on average. They wound on 3+ and you save on 6, so let's assume they wound both and you save one. At this point you win the combat by 4 and they test on Ld 4, meaning they will probably flee.
I tried to make a somehow positive average: but even if you killed one less and they killed one more of yours, you'd win by 1.
So, if I were you I wouldn't split your Lions. Instead, I'd consider swapping the Keeper of the Flame for a WL Champion or Standard Bearer, granting higher CR. I know your mage would be more in danger in a challenge, but when somebody challenges a mage, even refusing wouldn't be a problem I think.
thanks a lot for your comments rep for you
You're welcome, and thanks for the reputation
Let us know how does this list work on the field!
i played with a alterd version of this list today. i played against a new player so i had to reduce my list to 750 points. And for simplicity we played without magic.
i took away the mages, the banner in the PG, 2 PG and 1 Archer
As a general i took a standard Noble with reaver bow build.
the other (bretonnian) player fielded 2 paladins, 8 knights, 15 bowmen and 3 pegasus knights. the first 2 turns i hold my line stationairy, capable of shooting 3 knights down, and a couple of bowmen. in the second turn though he charged and broke my PG, overrun them and charge into my RBT. same turn my WL killed 2 pegasus knights and ran after the last fleeing Pegasus. 3 turns later i managed to shoot his last paladin to smithereens with my noble, and my WL where ready to charge his last bowmen, so he surrenderd.
I was really surprised how great a unit of WL can be, and a bit dissapointed in my PG for running away But it was fun, and we really enjoyed the battle for some uncharacteristic dice rolls. so did my noble manage to throw 3 snake eyes when i really needed to shoot the knights, and i faild 3 leadership tests while i just needed a 9.
so i didn't play the list as a magic heavy army, but the center block of the army (PG,WL,RBT,Archers) really did great
Bad luck he did pass his fear test to charge your PG - you would have had one more shootig turn to aim your Bolt Thrower at his knights (I like that lil crossbow against bret lance formation!) Other than that, having a funny game is the best thing you could have asked for
