Greetings all. I used to have an all cavalry army in 6th edition. When 7th decided to rip the heart out of my silver helms, I hung up my high helm and stepped away from the hobby for a bit.
Here I am once again embracing the asur. A little help creating a competitive, no dragon nor lord list is greatly appreciated. Here's what I'm thinking:
Korhil, joins the Phoenix Guard
Noble, joins the White LionsHeavy ArmourMage, joins archers
the White SwordLevel 2Mage, joins archers
Annulian CrystalLevel 2Core
Jewel of the Dusk
17x Phoenix GuardFC17x White Lions
Amulet of Fire
War BannerFC7x Sword Masters of Hoeth
Banner of Sorcery
7x Sword Masters of Hoeth
5x Dragon Princes of CaledorStandard Bearer5x Dragon Princes of CaledorStandard BearerRare
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Tactics are something that I need to develop more, the MSU armies of the past are fond memories but that's it. I'm thinking the PG and WL are anvils, SM assist either or. DP either assist infantry or go hunting a weak flank. Shooters... shoot things. RBT heavies, Archers light weights.
Am I missing anything?
Korhil with the Phoenix Gaurd is a great idea, but be aware that he is then the softest target in the unit, so should get all close combat attacks targetted at him. Thats not a big deal but be aware he does need a bit of protecting.
Other than that, your magic is good enough to get some stuff through, Stratovarion is right though, it won't be game breaking, but you get 2 attempts of drain magic on 3 dice and 1 attempt at shield of saphery as is which is alright, normally one of them will get through.
White Sword is a bit average, but your call, 2 characters with killing blow is cool, maybe take the talisman of Loec to reroll all wounds, so if you get no KB's you get to try again.
Solid list other than that, agree about the march blockers, they would be helpful.
I'd tend to agree with most of the ocmmenst above, but note that if there are no Lord level characters then you have to make up the kills from the rest of the army, and you have VERy little that can effectively monster hunt...I disagree with dropping both mages down to lvl1, I would say that having a level 2 is useful to throw a few dice at the enemy. And regarding teh Dragon Princes, the standards are pointless unless you plan on winning a combat using them or using a nice magical banner. I would opt for a champion with a nice magical itemlike enchanted shield or talisman of light (you'll need it against the vast number of magical creatures out there - ethereals, Chaos Warriors with Morrslieb armour, Wood ELf tree spirits etc).
Going without a Prince or Archmage is a bold move, but you will find that these guys benefit your army in another way other than just being pure magical powerhouses or combat monsters - the additional 50 points of magical items create real force multipliers. A Prince with his full outfit of magical gear is more than twice as good as a noble with his full outfit..
