Ok, reading through our nice army lists forum gave me the inspiration for a 500 points list. I'd liketo hear some comments and criticisms of yours, ladies and gentlemen, so here it goes:
500 exact points, if my maths are correct.
- Noble with Armour of Caledor, Guardian Phoenix, Great Weapon
- 9 White Lions with Champion
- 10 Archers
- Repeater Bolt Thrower
I have a very similar list, but for more shooting power, I use:
This adds more shooting, but makes no use of his combat prowess. You could give him a GW, but this would drop his AS to 5+. I also tend to use SM in smaller battles, as shooting is seldom a problem then, but as all our elite infantry costs the same. You can even use 5 Dragon Princes if you like.
5000p. High Elves
Well, my main aim with this list was to have a nice CC unit which could withstand enemy fire and still pack punch, so the choice obviously fell on WL. The good ranged apparatus (at least for such small games) would in my opinion perform quite well, tearing apart weaker units outright and weakening stronger ones which would eventually have to meet the Lions in melee.
I found my choices being quite compulsory, actually. Archers as core, not being able to let a RBT out and wanting a solid and durable character only left room for a small elite unit, so I chose WL. I think that in small battles shooting can be crucial, so I didn't want to expose my CC unit too much as SM would have done.
but what are you going to do with our noble? you have give him so much armour he could run on his own
i think i would take the guardian phoenix out, and add an other WL and give the noble a longbow.
this doesn't really weaken your noble, while you get a extra wound on your WL unit ( could run them 6 wide now and still get your rank bonus) and will effectively kill a enemy every 2 turns by bowfire. The single bow on the noble doesn't seem like much, but it will hit on a 2+ almost all the time, and in these small battles you have a real good chance of sinlge characters running around.

I almost always kit my Noble like that, I just don't want him to die... I kinda feel naked if I have no WS (due to a nasty Rock Lobba which hit a character exactly on his head, failed a "look out sir!"and scored 6 wounds on him...even if he had 1+AS he didn't even see combat) I did consider a bow for him, but then I thought that if I marched with the unit such bow would have been next to useless.
