Howdy everybody, here's my list for a 500 point game against either, skaven, wood elves, vampire counts, or lizardmen (me and a bunch of friends just came back to this game). Keep in mind this is my first list with the newest book so please help!
Level 2 Mage with Jewel of Dusk 150
14 Spearmen with no command (Mage joins for a 5x3 unit) 126
10 Pheonix Guard with no command 150
5 Shadow warriors 80
I really want to keep the mage and the pheonix guard the way they are, so if you guys could help me in any way it's appreciated! The point of me keeping units cheap is to get the maximum models i can (which i know is hard as HE's in a small game).
I do not have much experience of army's under 2K but I would have thought that you might be better using WLor SM instead of PG. PG tend to work best in much larger units 16+.
I would probably go with either White Lions or keep the Phoenix guard. At this few points, the defense against shooting may make up for the lower killing power. Having a third of your army get shot apart would be unpleasant. One thing I mihgt be concerned about is the lack of a really killy unit. You might have trouble with something like the saurus your opponent might have. For this reason, and for their awesome ability to move through woods, I might swap the phoenix guard for white lions. Strength six is really nice. Also, if you leave the mage in the spear unit, I would be really worried about him getting cut down as soon as he gets into close combat. One thing you might experiment with is using an Eagle instead of Shadow Warriors. This would save you some point that could be used to give command to your spears so that the mage can at least have a champion challenge to protect it. I think that the vulnerability of the mage in close combat is a big problem since he is a third of your points. Be sure to move him out of the unit before combat joins.
Thanks for your input so far! I think I will switch to WL's as they obviously have more killing power, plus they won't get shot up early on. Thanks alot!
