hii've only just started high elves and warhammer fantasy for that matter and this is my first ever list so it will probably be rubbish but hey thats learning!I've only got the battalion and I think i will buy the nobles, swordmasters and the lion chariot and then play a game against my friend who has a whole goblin army. This isn't based on killing gobbos though as he has dwarfs and empire too.
Noble- 139-heavy armour, enchanted shield, the white sword
Noble- 133-armour of Caeldor, amulet of light, great weapon
15 archers - 165
14 spearmen- 146- standard bearer, champ
Lion Chariot -140
11 swordmasters- 177-bladelord
repeater bolt thrower - 100
Total: 1000 exactlyBasic ideas:the noble with the amulet will go with the sword masters to deliver a great punch and the other noble will go with the spearmen for some protection and some extra killing power. the archers will be used to pick off lightly armoured units and act as a fire base and the repeater bolt thrower should take out anything nasty or kill any heavily armoured units. The lion Chariot can easily slay some basic infantry or target stuff that would annoy me.
Concerns: no magic means i'm vunerable to spells and can't cast any but at lower points I think i should bear it. My real concern is that my army is rather slow and doesn't have much to deal with cavalry, but I'll hope that my swordmasters will do damage backed up by my lion chariot that can flank charge them. And that's my list. good? bad? anything that should be changed? anything illegal ( I don't have a warhammer fantasy rulebook yet) feel free to critique this to deaththanks, Isiswarrior899
I like the list and it's certainly better than anything I came up with on my first try. I do think you should reduce the number of archers to 10 to bolster the spearmen a bit. 15 is my absolute minimum on spearmen and lately I've been fielding 25-30. 20 is good and solid.
Always, always, always have the Eagle's Claw Bolt Throwers. It's good that you've already picked up on that.
I only barely got any Sword Masters for my own army (I'm a Phoenix Guard kinda guy, myself) but they seem like a good choice for smaller as they are easily outnumbered. I've seen a tendency on the web to field them in small groups of 1 rank of 7. You may want to take away from them as well for a few extra points, but they should do well as they are.
You are right to be cautious with the use of command groups. I like what you've done with all of them.
I would prefer chariots in larger games. I think a small group of silver helms would be better for a 1000 point simply because it adds meat to your army.
It would certainly be nice to have a mage but it is also very expensive. If you can fit him in a level 2 mage will get you complete control of the magic phase, but with two big heroes already his 175 looks a little pricey.
Thanks for the advice. I've realised the enchanted shield is totally useless cause if he uses the white sword it's a two handed weapon so he can't use the enchanted sheilds. I agree that Ineed some cavalry. I'll post my new list on a new thread
hey nice attempt first up. Personally I think that the white sword is an overcosted item for what it does to be honest, strength 6 can be gained from an ordinary great weapon anyway and killing blow though it can be helpful you are going to be wounding alot of times on a 2 and they get -3 to armour anyway. Your concerns for magic i can understand especially with the swordmasters basically walking around with a target on there head. Give them a standard and upgraded it with the banner of arcane protection (MR2).
He is a list I quickly knocked up that is easily do-able:
Noble with great weapon, heavy armour and Sacred Incense (-1 to hit bearer and unit) - put in Swordmasters
Unit of 15 Archers
Unit of 20 Swordmasters, Champion and Standard (Champion Carrying the amulet of Light and standard carrying banner of arcane protection)
White Lion Chariot
2x Repeater Bolt Throwers.
I know its an "all your eggs in one basket list" but not much is going to be able to touch the swordmasters before combat (which is what you want) and with 15 archers and 2 bolt throwers backing you up you can thin out opposing units abit better to make it easier on your swordmasters. I have used this list before and it does work very well.
