Hey, debating taking my elves to a tourney, here is the list I have come up with so far, lemme know what you think.
Noble, Armour of Caledor, Guardian Phoenix, Great Weapon
Mage, Lvl 2, Silver Wand, Dispel Scroll X 2
Mage, Lvl 2, Ring of Fury
Archers X 10
Phoenix Guard X 20, Full Command, Skeinsliver, Banner of Sorcery
White Lions X 15, Champ, Banner, Standard of Balance
Swordmasters X 12, Full Command, Lion Standard
Ellyrian Reavers X 5, Musician
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Repeater Bolt Thrower
Total = 1999
I like it alot, it is a very hard list with a good number of bodies on the table.
My only reservation is with the Mage with Silver Wand and 2 scrolls. I vastly prefer Scroll and Seer Staff, I think that he offers a great deal more strength in your magic phase especiall with the Banner of Sorcery meaning he can cast two 3 dice spells a turn.
I am also dubious about the Skeinsliver in this army, (generally just not a fan of it), Swapping it for making the noble a BSB might be more beneficial in the long run.
I usually make the noble a BSB, but with this army I cant because I am very iffy on my general being a leadership 8 mage, I feel I need the leadership 9 on my general, and I really want to take 2 mages because high elves can really dominate the magic phase at under 2000 points. I do see your point though on re-tooling the mage. I was perhaps thinking of swapping the reavers for shadow warriors...thoughts?
I did think about the BSB vs general, and it is definitely a tough call. BSB will keep PG and White-Lions in a fight almost indefinitely while the +1 Leadership will help with panic a bit but not with much else. It does make you very vulnerable to losing your general and giving up 100VPs.
Reavers vs Shadow Warriors- I rate them as about equal but at a tournament reavers speed vs the potential lack of places to hide shadow Warriors can be a clincher in favour of Reavers.
That's a very solid list. I do agree on the Mage's tooling, the Staff gives a bit more solidity than the Wand. I'd keep the Skeinsliver, I tend to like shooting and casting first.
