I signed up for a 2250 point tournament with my High Elves. No special characters, so Tyrion is out. I'd like to have a reasonable shot at this, so what can I do with my collection?
Tyrion (useless unless I use him as a generic character)
Two mages on foot
Two units of 20 spearmen
Two units of 10 archers
Two bolt throwers
Six Dragon Princes
Five Silver Helms
One Lion Chariot
One Tiranoc Chariot
I'd like to use the Dragon Mage, for the cool factor, and don't want to proxy anything. I think my greatest variety is in the use of the mages and since I suck at magic, advice would be helpful.
I don't know how effective it will be but I will have a go at a list for you.
Archmage L4 325
Jewel of Dusk, 2 Scrolls, Foliariths robes
Dragon Mage L2 435
Ring of Fury, Silverwand
Noble (Silver Helm Champion) 156
Dragon Armour, Barded Steed, Shield, Lance
Radiant Gem of Hoeth
20 Spearmen 230
Full Command, Lion Standard
6 Dragon Princes 230
Full Command, Banner of Sorcery, Gem of Courage
2 Bolt Throwers
I think that is almost there, if necessary you could use the Dragon Prince champ as the noble and then include the Silver-helms. It's not a great army, but the spears should break most things when combined with the 2 chariots charging in the front or Dragon hitting a flank. Reasonable magic although your spells might be a bit limited.
You've tossed about ten things at me that I've never thought of....I need to study this list! And it's interesting using the noble...where do I put him? with the Dragon Princes?
If you could make him a BSB I would put him in the Spears, as he is in either the Dragon Princes or the Silver-helms if you take them. I think Silver-helms really need the support of a character to bolster the number of attacks they can put out on the charge, that or a large unit, which I don't like on cavalry.
I bought the High Elf Prince & Noble box this weekend. It appears I can make both a BSB on foot and a mounted Prince with Lance. Would that be advisable, or should the BSB be on the horse?
Ok there is no right answer to that unfortunately.
On foot- BSB with Great weapon and Armour of Caledor is great for bolstering a Spearman or Phoenix Gaurd unit (this role can be filled by a prince or a noble).
Mounted- BSB can bolster Dragon Princes and Silverhelms.
I would put the BSB on a horse though because then you can get him a 2+ mundane armour save without magic items, allowing you access to the Battle Banner, one of the best in the game for winning crucial combats.
I would use the standing model as the BSB. He will be with and around the troops that can use the bonus the most. And what I did when I bought that box set is I took an old metal shadow warrior and hacked his right arm off then put the standard on him and made the standing nobel with a weapon. That way I got three models out of it.
That is a good point though. Especially if you use your helms. The bsb would rock for them. Hell and the princes
Thanks for the advice so for - I'll figure out how to put a BSB in the army somewhere.
This game makes my brain hurt....
But it hurts soooo good ;-)
