    2500 point list idea

So I am thinking that when I finish my daemon army (gonna be at least a month) I would like to start a High Elf army. I like the idea of phoenix guard and so the army is themed around them and is very combat heavy.

    Lord: Archmage: 350
    - annulian crystal, talisman of preservation, ironcurse icon

    Lord: Prince: 242
    - armour of caledor, vambraces of defense, great weapon

    Hero: Caradryan: 175

    Hero: Noble: 170
    - bsb, great weapon, shield, armor of destiny

    Core: 65 Spearmen: 625 points
    - standard (banner of arcane protection), musician
(gonna do 12 wide I think, archmage and bsb go here)

    Special * 2: 14 Phoenix Guard: 228 (456)
    - standard, musician
    (thinking of 7 wide)

    Special: 14 Phoenix Guard: 243
    - standard (banner of swiftness), musician
(caradryan, and prince most likely go here, 8 wide with the heroes)

    Special: 14 Phoenix Guard: 238
    - standard (banner of eternal flame), musician
    (thinking 7 wide)

    Total: 2499

Let me know what you guys think the plan is to have the spearmen be a giant anvil and use the phoenix guard units to gaurd the flanks / be a hammer.

    - You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.

I use my spearmen the same way (only 60 at 10 wide though) and it works great

Made some changes think this will work better.

    Lord: Prince:
    - Armor of Caledor, Vambraces of Defense, (Potion of Strength or Amulet of Light), Great Weapon.

    Lord: Archmage:
    - Talisman of Preservation, Annulian Crystal, Level 4, Lore of Shadows

    Hero: Caradryan:

    Hero: Noble:
    - BSB, Armor of Destiny, Shield, Great Weapon

    Core * 4: 14 Archers:
    - Musician

    Special * 4: 14 Phoenix Guard:
    - Banner, Musician
    - You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.

Get Full Command (inc champions) on all your units, and equip them with magical goodies.

Is 65 SPears really going to be any use against Demons? Sure they will be steadfast a lot of the time, but that is a lot of bodies not fighting but still dying, just to get the Horde rule.

I would go for a champion on every unit to at least protect your troops and that all important steadfast from bigg beasties, go 2 units of PG at 28 for 7 wide and 4 ranks or 5 wide and 5 ranks.

Banners of arcane protection is a must against Demonic magic, and I would also advise that you take some more magic yourself - though fortunately your archers are really very good against most demons forces due to the abundance of poor ward saves.

Don't have spears in the updated list. Also it is a take all comers list. Not sure were you got the verse daemon idea.

Not a fan of champions for the most part as for the small units of phoenix guard it is something I want to try out but if it doesn't work I will be making 2 bigger blocks most likely.

I think in a lower model count army the better choice is to take more guys then a few items that may or may not help.

The extra attack from the unit champion in the front row is (with the exception of archer units) always worth an extra model in the rear rank, and considering most of the cost limits on chamption items you're only looking at 1-2 people per unit for those upgrades - which could easily provide you (for example) a ward save vs war machines, the ability to for one turn reroll Ld tests for the entire army, an +1 to M, magical/flaming attacks for the entire unit... all much better than just an man or two standing around at the back. Hell, kit a champion out well enough and he can deal with challenges effectively keeping your other characters out of harm's way.
