    1500pt High Elf list

Here's my first high elf list ever, comments and criticisms welcome!

    LORDS:
    Archmage
    - Silver Wand
    - Level 4

    HEROES:
    Battle Standard Bearer
    - Standard
    - Armour of Caledor
    - Guardian Phoenix
    - Great Weapon

    Caradryan

    CORE:
    16 Lothern Sea Guard
    - Shields
    - Full Command

    16 Lothern Sea Guard
    - Shields
    - Full Command

    SPECIAL
    20 Phoenix Guard
    - Full Command
    - Ruby Ring of Ruin
    - Banner of Sorcery

By my calculations I've got about 40pts spare, are there any glaring problems with this list? Basically the idea is that I pepper the enemy with arrows and spells until they reach me, at which point I will use the Phoenix Guard as an anvil to wear the remaing units down.

    Thank you!

your LSG units are just a bit small..

i would take caradrian out, and use those points to beef your LSG up to at least 20 each.

if you really want to pepper your enemy, you need at least an RBT. A BSB with reaver bow and enchanted shield has been a succes for me, and could really help you to get some more firepower.

Yeah, that might be an idea. The main reason I had Caradryan in there is so I could have some close combat punch once the phoenix guard got into battle, but do you think I need it?

At any rate, I'd drop the ruby ring and the silver wand, and kit the archmage properly (ie either defensively or with a book of hoeth) - a naked archmage isn't exactly the smartest choice in the book.

Well, to be fair, I don't really know what to give the Archmage since I've never played High Elves before. What are some of the good set-ups? Book of Hoeth looks pretty good, I assume I only miscast on the roll of a double 6, like Teclis? How would I set him/her up "defensively"?

If Teclis is unavailable, always give the archmage the book of hoeth (You're correct about the miscasting, so generally go for lore of life, throw six dice and at the throne of vines, and your mage is pretty much guaranteed to get his spells out, without putting himself in harms way too much). A defensive setup, since you only have one mage, would be giving him the 4+ ward save and the annullian crystal (an other item almost too god to not be taken).

If I take out the Ruby Ring and Caradryan, that leaves me with 236 points with which to change things. I reckon I'll add in the Book, leaving me 136, then the 8 more Sea Guard rounding the units to 20, which'll leave me...32 points to spare. In summary, my army would then look like this:

    LORDS:
    Archmage with Book of Hoeth

    HEROES:
BSB w. Armour of Caledor, Great Weapon and Guardian Phoenix

    CORE:
20 Sea Guard w. full command and shields

20 Sea Guard w. full command and shields

    SPECIAL:
    20 Phoenix Guard.

That's looking nice and symmetrical, what do you think?

I think that at 1500 points, your +5 to dispel would be enough to deal with most of what the enemy can throw at you(of the things you have a chance of dispelling).
the starwood staff with folariaths robe would be a nice buid too.

If you want some more punch, it would be better to change one of the units of LSG to WL's or SM's. problem there is that you still have to get your 25% core choice.
a 25 strong unit with warbanner, probably will fill that up.

Are a magician and a standard bearer with spellbanner in there?
