I have drawn up an army for my High Elves and would like to seek advice for it.
Here it is.
Teclis (Placed in the PG unit)
Caradryan (Placed in the PG unit)
25 x Spearmen + F/C
25 x Spearmen + F/C
28 x Phoenix Gaurd + F/C + Amulet of Light
20 x Sword Masters + F/C + Sword of Battle + Banner of Arcane Protection
Total = 1995
Spearmen I plan on having 5 wide and 5 deep, Phoenix Gaurds will be 5 wide and 6 deep, and Sword Masters will be 5 wide and 4 deep.
I am also thinking of taking some Lion Chariot and/or Dragon Princes.
Teclis is a very good asset to the army but is very costly for a 2,000 point battle. I could possibly swap him for an Archmage Lv 4 to have the items "Annulian Crystal" and "Loremasters Cloak" (As my friend is all about magic) for 340 pts.
Would it also be more benifitial to add 1/2 Bolt throwers in? I'm open for any changes that could help.
So please let me know all thoughts over this.
i HATE saying this but if ur friend uses magic he's going to HATE teclis cause honestly teclis is THAT good ahah, you probably hate my caps but im sure u understand hes just THAT good. and onto ur list i see there isnt too much to handle warmachines i would add an eagle or two of even some dragon princes cause to be honest when u have ur 20 sword masters bunched up and a single stone throwers goes on them and like 75% die.... it sucks
Imho, you field your units a little too thin - we're elves, we die easy, and kill lots, so static combat rez isn't really our thing. Fielding Swordmasters four ranks deep for example is pretty much a waste of points - add a single swordmaster, and field them 7x3. At the expense of a single rank, you gain 6 S5 Attacks, that'll most likely contribute more into winning a combat. Fielding that many Pg, and that deep is technically sound, but imho won't pay off, unless you have some very specific enemies in mind. Again, Elves, even with a 4+ ward, won't outlast much of anything, so I'd personally stay away from the pg, until much larger games.
The Silver Knights of Tor Adrac (He): 26/2/4
The Spears of Slaanesh (Woc): 7/2/5
Battlegroup Chalybso (GK): 7/3/3
Elfs r expensive, so you should really be thinking of fielding slightly more units which allows u to take the fight to them in more areas.
as said above. in this size battle i would probably take about 15-18 SMs, 3 deep with either 5 or 6 wide. Can go wider but for this size meh id save on the points.
The same goes for PG, i wouldnt take more than 18 (2 more from tec and cara) and field a classic and very workable 5 by 4
Id cosider a eagle or two, potentially a small unit of WL or a chariot.
And where r ur RBTs
Also my oppinion only but teclis in a 2k point game with another special character, dont u feel cheap and unwashed. personally my opponents simply object to playing against teclis, so instead a lvl 4 with book a little cheaper in points yet alot less cheap!
The reason I chose this army is because my friend uses Lizardmen and bases his whole army around his Slann (Who I killed in the 2nd round).
I dropped the Swordmasters and dropped 10 PG for a Lion chariot and two squads of 10 Archers. I also used another Mage just so I could gain up to 9 extra dispell dice a round with the items my army had. (Worked perfectly against his Slann's magic phase.)
My Spearmen didn't do much and ended up dying pretty badly. Maybe I should use LSG in the future?
I wasn't too sure about the Chariot and think I might just use a unit of 10 WL instead for future use.
Within all though, this army worked very well against his army.
I have a feeling that he will be using a Skaven army next time, so please keep and eye out for an army list to counter it. (Opinions on the best way to beat all those rats will be very welcome).
Also I only ever use characters if my enermy is okay with it. I even offered to swap him before we started the game.
Thanks for all the advice though everyone.
Grats on the win, good to hear, i didnt mean to come across badly with the character comment hehe meant to add a to the end of it.
It's not a problem, I never take comments personally And I do enjoy all the advice I get given to make my army and tactics stronger =D
Personally I'd revisit your units' sizes. At 2000 points 28 PG are way too many IMO. If you want a big unit of them run 22, 6x4 characters included, and if I were you I'd swap Caradryan for a BSB (Guardian Phoenix, Armour of Caledor, great weapon). I am also no fan of 5x5 Spearmen, feels like something's wasted to me. If you had them 6x4 you'd have both more attacks and a slightly less costly unit.
I would also like to see some ranged killiness there - a couple RBTs, a few Archers if you fancy. And I agree that the SMs unit is too big, that could be easily split into 2 smaller units for flankings and the like.
But then, some choices may depend on the enemy you are facing. Anyways, these is my general piece of advice.
Hope it helps,
