The idea is to use the small blocks of special troops to flank and the big block of spears as an anvil. Also the mages and RBT are just brutal in this point range. LOS and LOL work well together. Especially the mage with LOS having the staff that allows you to choose your spells. The mind razor is brutal!!!!!
IMO you're missing the two best arcane items available to us - the book of hoeth (which IIRC you can just squeeze in a 1250pt list) is amazing for magical offence and the annulian crystal which can cripple the opponents magic phase - although I understand your point with the staff
Where are these mages sitting? Right now you don't seem to have a good bunker unit for them to hide in, I'd swap the SMs for PG at this point level.
I like the 2 RBTs at this point though, there's a lot of shooting in this army I'm just worried you're not going to survive past the first charge.
Thanx for the input, i do like the sugestion for the PG havent played with them alot but as i understand it they have alot of staying power. i may exchange them for the SM and house one mage there and one in the LSG all i really want are a few units to absorb hits so its not on the mages. Mages are so fragile
I'm a bit concerned about the size of the LSG. They're a bit small to do anything but babysitting RBTs if you ask me. I'd consider dropping them to bulk your Spears and so have a big fat block.
Hope it helps,
Well i played this list tonight against skaven. The game would have been a very good one had it not have been for my opponent having a six model strong rat ogre unit with a warlord and some crazy pack master special character. Gnawl Tooth or something like that. Insane unit. The fact that you can take lords at under 2000 pts now makes skaven broken. But anyway. that rat ogre unit rampaged my entire line almost. he got a crushing victory. And yes the small LSG needs to go bye bye i was using them to house the mage with shadow lore. but if i get rid of them do i leave the mages running around by themselves?
oh and one more question how do you stop a warp lightning cannon from mage sniping? from the way i understand it even if you mage is in a unit all you have to do is aim the cannon ball directly in front of the character and not mis fire. WHAM d6 wounds to the character. Is this legal with a cannon?

Check out the "look out sir!" rule.
Personally I would drop the spears and have two equal sized blocks of LSG. PG would have survived the rat ogres better, and so wouldn't need to kill them in one turn like the SM.
Well I tried to use the "Look out Sir" rule but it states that if the champion or character is hit by a template weapon then it is usable. So with the cannon not being a template weapon can I still benifit from a look out sir roll?
And I agree i think im going to swap SM for PG very soon and try them out some more.
The book states that the cannon is treated exactly like a special kind of template. So yes, look out sir available. If it weren't so cannons would be broken then, and Dwarfs, Empire and Skaven would rule this land!
Hope it helps,
Well I re-read the LOS rule. Then I re-read the cannon rules. The cannon rules state that a cannon uses a special kind of template that assumes the width of the cannon ball. Even though there is no real "template" for a cannon it is still considered to be a template weapon. Therefore you always get a LOS roll. Thanx for clearing this up guys. other than that though the list performed rather well. Would it be worth droping the SM and WL for a big block of PG?
